as has been said its like holden v ford, both good. saltigas have their following, they may be a bit heavier but check all the stats on the net.

also www.alantani.com has very detailed reel reviews.

stella all the way for me buts thats just my opinion.

I have fished both Salty & Stella for many years and own two of each. Can't fault either reel!
Witch ever you decide to go with be assured, you are buying a top of line spin reel.

I have own a Stella 10000 , 18000 and the new Saltiga 6500H (2010 Model)

IMHO I prefer the new Saltiga 6500H over the Stella 18000 as it feels much lighter when on a Rod than a Stella 18000 even though the spec's show the weights being similar on paper. The new Saltiga feels more  balanced and the free spool feels smoother also.

SALTIGA's all the way for me! and that's because weight is an issue for me as i prefer the lightest setup.

However the Stella's are still awesome reels.... Like MIB said its personal  preference so i suggest that you try the new Saltiga and the Stella before you make a decision but if weight is an issue for you then the new  Saltiga's all the way.

Stella 10000SW is my pick for top water. Because....

spool lip makes me feel like it will cast further
excellent size and line capacity for casting
better drag than saltiga 5000 high gear
