| A few weeks ago I took Uncle out for a Tarakihi fish. He lent me his braid rig which was the first time I'd used the stuff and was certainly sucessful. So I top shot one of my six kilo rigs with 30lb braid and tried it yesterday. Fishing in 40 metres of water I caught ten Tarakihi to 1.4kg in a short time. It's awesome stuff to use and I'm converted. Fish of that size on the braid put up a good scrap for themselves and it was great sport plus yummy dinners. |

Good to see another convert Just a suggestion, I enjoy using it in shallow water as well, although you need to make sure you have a rod with a very soft tip ------------- If the world didn't suck we'ed all fall off! |

Braid is dynamite. But be careful, you need a very soft tip action if you want to be regularly targeting tarakihi, as the lack of spring in the braid tends to wear holes in the soft mouths of the trikkies faster than nylon. If you are fishing under 100ft stick with nylon. However, you wait till you try your 1st Braid hapuku drop...mate! The number of guys who have scoffed about hapuku (yeaaahhh, they're boring, just like pulling up a bucket of cement etc etc," ) and then been amazed at being pinned to the rail by a decent puku when taken on braid, ahhh yes, such happy (and smug) memories! :-) Cheers, and welcome to the Braid Fanciers Club! yeah braid is awesome...but capt asparagus is right you have to watch the stuff cos it will groove out your guides and stuff on the rod....i have a few good niks in my penn mariner rod now due to the stuff but who gives....i love braid and would definately recommend its use...esp a nice fat king fish....oh and puka....they are cool on braid....only pain with braid i find is impatient deckies who try to untangle knots with a knife.....very expensive method to solve a 5min problem ------------- im not as think as you drunk i am |

| Thanks guys, Iwas wondering if it would cut out the guides, its pretty fine line. Ive got it on an old Kilwell graphcast 6kg rod that seems to have quite a slow action and I think worked well. The reels a little Shimano Bantam 50sg. |

| Just a note about Braid and guides, it will chew out the guides with Hardaloy type inserts, (Aluminium Oxide I think) but it doesn't worry Stainless steel guides......Strange but true. If in doubt go with Silicon Nitride, expensive but ultra safe. |

All my rods are custom built. I use Aftco single foot roller guides for braid use. Absolutely frictionless. ------------- don't cloud the issue with facts! |
