At the last Green Lane Boat Show I purchased a boat cover from a company that offered a five year warranty, I paid about $450.00, not the cheapest and by no means the dearest but the display one looked ok for the price.
The first time I fitted it to the boat one of the straps and clips parted company, bugga, maybe I pulled it too tight so I to tied that one and made sure I did not over tighten the others.
Last weekend I decided to remove the cover, give the boat a clean and run the engine. All went well until I replaced the cover and two more straps came off, this time parting from the stitching.
Time to contact the company and see how good their five year guarantee is.
Should have read the box when I bought it, it states that the five year guarantee covers " deterioration of the material, fading and the seam stitching on the material. "
I contacted the company and was told this in no uncertain terms and directed to the guarantee page on their web site.
I found the responses from the company quite aggressive, so I told them that I would, with out mentioning company names, place a post on this forum to warn other boaties of potential issues. Their reply was that they were going to offer me a replacement cover but not that I had started to make threats they would withdraw the offer.
That'll teach me to read the box before I buy.

As I stated to them "what good is a five year guarantee on the cover if the straps break"
I wont name them but I think there the only company offering a five year guarantee.

If you can get it to me today Rob I might be able to do it today. Will have it sorted before the end of the week anyway. You would be surprised(or maybe not), how many of those covers I see. All under 5 years old and many past their use by date.

Yep there the ones, had a long chat with the guy ay the show, seemed like a nice guy but the after service is rubbish.
Osif, Thanks for the offer, no mad rush mate, I've got it roped on, I'll get it down to you sometime and get you to re-stitch all the straps.

I have been getting 2 years out of those cheap (under $50) silver covers. Its a lot better than a 5 year one where the stitching goes in the end anyway.

I'd have been happy with two years, this one was from the last Hutchwilco Boat Show at the ASB Showground, sometime in May I think. No older than 4 months.

Tried that one already Catchit, this was their response.
What did the box the cover came in say on it in a big red flash? Quote " Five year guarantee against fading".
We do not cover straps. Buckles or tearing".
So if you caught the material on a sharp point would you still expect to claim because we had not told you that?
Most people ask and check if in doubt or require clarification.. It
is impossible to tell everybody everything particularly at a show.
The website details were on the box and you could have checked there.
As you can see there not great to deal with and they've stopped responding to emails.

I bought a cover from these people at the Hutchwilco boatshow this year too. My mate already had one on his hard top, and I was impressed by it. Not the cheapest, but seem very well made, with a 3 year guarantee, and certainly no problems yet and it's pretty windy at our place.

I found the clips on my Coversystem cover a little fragile. Most of them broke on mine, so had to tie the straps to the trailer. You just need to take care tensioning them up. The actual cover was very good until UV got the better of it after about 4 years.

Contacted the company and mentioned the Consumer Guarantee Act as suggested by "Fisher" They have now agreed to pay for the cover to be restitched. Would have been so nice to have this offer in the first place.
Osif I'll give you a shout over the next few days to get a price for the guy, maybe restitch all of them and I'll pay the difference.
Thanks for the advice guys. Problem resolved.
