Do you guys have your lures attached to your leader while cruising around in the boat.
I've been keeping the lures attached and hooking the tail treble over a guide strut (what ever you call it) while heading to spots etc.
This results in both roughed up rod and lure. Is there a better way?

Hey Marx, you could try using the belly hook on the guide leg, tail hook hangs out the way like that, I also use a push-on plastic cover for the tail hook to stop any sort of marking on my waaaay to expensive rod

I saw a rod wrap thingyamy from shimano once that was designed for wrapping around the rod and lure whilst in transist. I'll see if I can find a pic...
Edit: It's called a Shimano Butterfly Coccon Wrap. http://shimano.fishing-store.us/shimano-bfljc05-butterfly-jig-cocoon-wrap.html - http://shimano.fishing-store.us/shimano-bfljc05-butterfly-jig-cocoon-wrap.html

ummm you can always just get some old wetsuit make a few strips sew/glue in some velcrow and then wrap it around the rod and lure when you travel, then take it off when you get to your spot :)

Marx - I usually rather clip the lure to the boat somehow... to a loop/cleat or something rather than attaching it to the rod itself... this serves as a two fold plus, because it keeps the lure away from your rod, preventing damage etc, and it also works to "lock" the rod into the rod holder for when you're travelling by holding it into the rod holder... Make sense?
What you can do is attach a few eyelets alongside your rod holders, and just hook the rear hook into these while you are travelling....

Wish the pic was mine... a custom Carpenter and Custom Fisherman, and a DOgfight and Stella 18K BOTH with MC Works handles would be a nice addition to the stable!!!

Dr Dre that is just rude. I just hook them up around the leader near the guide , don't like putting hooks on to guide arms or rings. For long distance travel i hook them into the carpet on the floor of my boat.

I'm like Stellajigger, I drop them in the side pockets of my boat, or drop them down unused rod holders. Try to avoid the floor hate to stand on one in bare feet.

If you are hooking the lures up with a split ring, don't put them on when heading out. those big hooks beat the hell out of the rod. Like Nepptune said, if you pre-rig hook them on the boat somewhere. I use the railing or the railing stand off when going between spots and remove the lures when heading home. the shot from Brandon still looks like the belly hook is too close to the handle for my liking. Hit some chop and the foam will look like a cat got to it.

I ruined a stick bait leaving it hanging on the rod like you mentioned...not good for the stickbait or the blank of the rod for that matter.Treat it like a jig.

I try mate, I try!
Gotta say I agree with PoppinTonga - A better way to clip the lures would be to attach the lure from the rod on the left, to the loop/clip of the rod holder holding the rod on the right... and continue with the rod one the Right attaching to the next holder down to the right...
This keeps the lures hooks etc away from the EVA and reels etc.. this is how I rig mine now...

Santa makes a good point. Those rod holder are pretty, but there are some nasty hooks with the points facing up waiting to catch someone. No beers on that boat

For me I just wrap some large rubber bands around the rod close to the reel seat, easy to secure the hooks and lure safely as they can easily come off an eye and bracket with boat and rod movement...
