Just about to buy my first jig setup.
Has anybody got or used a Cortez. Just looking for a bit of a review of what you think of it?

Cheers

Well it was too good a deal to just let go so I ordered it. Cortez 12 on a Okuma Braid Concepts 400 rod. So I guess when it turns up I'll try it out and post a review...
Never been jigging so not sure how good I can review a combo lol  but will give it a go.... now just need to find some decent kingies to hook up on.... Audies here I come.

good luck dude, i don,t know much about them but i think what it amounts to is the ole
'you get what you pay for' scenario.
similar to tools of the trade for building.. if you roll with hitachi/makita/bosch/metabo/milwalke
then all good. however predator/ryobi/xu1... get my my drift?.
not to be sounding like a smartarse its just i think it,s worth spending that bit extra

Hmm things to think about then from your point of view. I like the Okuma range and being a middle man (can't afford the top end stuff) but this setup spooled is coming in round the $600 mark... for me thats like gold lol, in the US market it seems to have good reviews but thats for bass....
Is Okuma really that bad? .. I mean I'm a mechanic and good tools I know about but I didn't think Okuma was a XU1 lol
My soft bait setup is Okuma as with my cut bait boat rods and all pull good fish when there on.
Dam... wish ya spoke up early on so as I don't feel like I waisted a whole bunch of money....

Gday mate, I just had a look at the reel on youtube and was quite impressed with it. Im in the same boat as you and can't afford the top end gear that gets discussed on here all the time. If your not targeting 20kg beasts every weekend Im sure your combo will do the trick nicely. Good luck.

Just out of interest mate who did you order your combo through. I just found the same combo on http://www.fullonfishing.co.nz - www.fullonfishing.co.nz but the 10 size reel for $399.

hey im sure it will perform admirably for an entry level jig set up, i must admit okuma have stepped

up there game in the last cupla years. but just like the the tool comparison i,m talking about
shelf life.. i spose it depends on how much you intend on thrashing it, prob suffice for light-medium
weekend warrior dutys but if you plan a serious charter or have access in your own boat to reef donkey country ie; ranfurlys or 3 kings etc then upgrade to some serious artillery.
just do those transactions very quitely tho so the misses don,t find out.. i got busted buying a new
jigging master reel recently she hasn,t talked to me since!
