Hi guys.

I am a new member here and i am planning to go to thames to do some off the shore fishing(Possibly on a wharf). Can anyone suggest me where can i go for some snappers if possible. I came from auckland so i m not familiar with the area there. Thanks!

I dont think you will have much luck that far down the Gulf at this stage. I suggest that you go further up the coast heading toward Coromandel and find some comfy looking rocks when you can see the mussel farms out to see.probably about 35 to 40 minutes north of Thames

Thanks for the reply guys. I've been to wilson bay nothing but seaweeds and also tried long bay up coromandel and just a small kawawhai. I guess i am lost there and no luck. Anyway can you guys let me know whats there around auckland since i am based at auckland. Thanks!

FF, The best advice I could give from my short time here Is if someone from here says they are going do you want to come ? SAY YES.

Guys like Tobes etc...they know what they are doing. Go with them learn the way, then find your own spots.....its all good

hey there fishing freak...up near wilsons bay is red hot....you have to go an hour before low tide tho and make sure you are there at the crack of dawn...i find that using gamakatsu 5/0 to 7/0 recurves are the way on a running sinker outfit....most of the rocks up there will produce some nice snapper...i like to cast out then chuck a steady stream of chunky berley bit out...

the tide is the key tho...low tide in the morning is a must....often the muddier the water the closer they are in....i have had loads of success up that way..and now that the water temp is rising you should see loads more action.....

if you are keen to go i can show you a primo spot to go.....just email back and we can sus out a date or something
