Six friends and crew boarded the boat at 6am in Avarua Habour and set sail shortly after for 5 hours of deep sea fishing. Lurers were set within minutes of leaving the dock as we steamed in a 1.5m swell towards a FAD just south of the habour. We watched the sun rise at 7:15am. THe plan was to work this FAD for a couple of hours i n the hope of getting some Yellow Fin Tuna. At about 8am the first 1 was hooked. This being 5Kg was land within minutes.
7:15am sun rise as seen from MV Seafari

5Kg Yellow Fin Tuna

At about 8:30am a full set of 5 lurers were set in a pattern for Mahimahi, Wahou and Marlin as we trolled a few hundred meters of the reef in search of a strike. We had a wait another couple of hours before our second strike - a 10Kg Yellow Fin Tuna that took about 15 minutes to land.

We returned to Avarua tying up about mid day.
This charter operator will share the catch with you. We took home more than enough fish to feed
12 adults. It pays to discuss this with when booking as the local custom is that the crew takes the catch home. During the week we were there, the swell outside the reef was 4.5m and not alot of fish were being caught. The locals wew getting $15/kilo for Yellow Fin Tuna from the restaurants.
The crew were friendly, food was good and I will be heading back for some more fishing next year.

Fresh sashimi !!
You're right, I've been on 3 seperate charters and they all will share the fish equally, providing you do the deal before you leave the jetty.
