What do you use when fighting kings with 8'+ rods. Do you use a fighting belt with the gimble bolt removed, do you use the gimble and rod gimble knock, or do you simply use the mushroom cap on the butt of the stick and dig it into your guts/ pelvic area. I realize there is specialist fighting belts for this gear with molded plasitic hollows and there is those cross bar things that fit onto your gimble knock. I'm not going to be rushing out to buy one of these, just wondering what the most comfortable and effective way you find is to fight them, as I'm yet to catch anything big off a boat with a rod that size.

Nice title tasman! I have seen top guys using a bucket(good size with no pin) with the rubber cap on...such a big rod in a rocking boat...id be reluctant to to use the gimbal knock myself...A leather bucket without pin would give you some control over your butt mateLOLbut sure some will pipe in here, who know more than me.
something like this mate...I had one of these for years...comes with a leather belt and the good thing you can use off the bricks too and swing it around your back when not in use(in fact i use mine with one of those bait buckects from aussie.so i can stay at the rocks)This one has the pin removed...just dont stick the gimbal knock of your rod in there without the pin...that was a stupid mistake i made with my old one and it F###ed it.This one i scored of T/me....would do the job for stick bait rod and off the bricks with any rod.comfortable too...these are hard to find now.
