Know some guys might turn their noses up at some of these options, but Mrs won't let me remortgage the house just yet. Would love to splash out on a ripplefisher, carpenter etc. but got about a 5 hundy limit. Want a 7 and a half to 8 foot rod for casting stick baits and small poppers. Oh and two piece

Kilwell Livefibre GT 7'6 - anyone had a bend on one of these?

Offshore Illusion 7'6 150 - 200g Had a play and seems nice. Dunno if enough play at the tip for working stick baits thou?? Kinds weird lure rating too.

T-Curve 7'6 15 -24kg - Don't really like the way they don't load up evenly but has a nice flexi tip for smaller stick baits.

would I get a custom for that sorta money? Probably not a. Any other options out there? Wanting it for land and boat.
Tah.

Van Staal GT802 is nice as well. But Livefibres.... hard indeed to go past one of them.

Within that price bracket I would go for the t curve I had one and thrashed it and its still being thrashed by Josh worthington up in Panama.

Another to consider is the Van Stall not sure of the mane but some tackle shop jocky may well chip in and post it I think Hookerpuka from top catch Whangarei uses one

thanks people. I tried a Van Staal and found it way way to stiff and didn't really like them. Thought it was way more a popper rod for big GTs. Have you had a swing on those GT Livefibres CA. Just wondering what the action is like on them.

The t curves are under rated and have a nice soft tip that is suited to the floating stickbaits in that it loads up well  on the sweep rather than ripping the lure out of the water in a cartwheeling motion that some of the stiffer tipped rods can . The offshores are bloody nice rods but as most of the stickbaits that you use for kingies around NZ ( assuming that is where youll be using it the most) are in the 80-120 g weight it might be a bit too heavy for these. Lionel at Offshore does do a nice lighter weight rod but I think that is a bit longer which is a good thing in my opinion in terms of cast distances. The Kilwell one from memory has a nice action but quite a short butt section which digs into your ribs somewhat when you tuck it under your arm for the stickbait sweep action.

I'd be interested in looking at one of those kilwell livefibres as have a few of their rods and my custom popper rod was built on a kilwell blank.

where did you see the rod Manoa?

A bargain at the current bid, I was going to sell mine as I've got Carpenter Heart now, but if that is the market value for this brilliant, incredibly lightweight but strong as rod I'll just keep mine!

Hi JK, saw them Livefibres on their site. Rang them and they are in stock.

Raptor do you know the specs on that lighter rod form offshore. It is not on their site. .Might give them  a ring, but just want to know what model.

That Kaibutsu has been removed.

I've had several live fibre and kilwell special blanks made into popper rods in the past. Not sure if I have actually used the kilwell livefibre GT or not though.... I suspect I have, it is a two piece that is in the solomons at the moment, as I will be using it again come january when I head back there. And it is indeed a very very sweet rod. It is a 30lb blank though, not sure what the non-custom rods at rated at..... I guess Nagged on here would be the guy to ask, seeing as he makes them! :-)

Cant exactly remember exactly but was around 24kg and about 8 foot 3 long. What I did like about the one I had a bend on was that it seemed to fold away well which is good for fighting kings that all pretty much head straight down. Some of the heavier GT rods can be bloody hard on your back with kings.Give Lionel a call he may well be doing a bigger range now in what is an evolving area of fishing.

got one of these, Offshore Illusion 7'6 150 - 200g and it's mint, had a crack with the killwell set up last year was also good. Offshore Illusion 7'6 150 - 200g should be in your price range. Put a Talisman on my one and are very happy with it. PLEASE SOMEONE STOP THE WIND!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use a diawa monster mesh quite a bit for casting light stick baits.
Prefer to use my carpenter when fishing myself but for the charter work the monster mesh has been really good. Not the best for poppers unless they are really light with small faces.

Thanks all, that information was gold. I rang Leon at offshore today. He explained the lighter action stickbait rods that they have been making. It's 8'6" 2 piece, with a lot more play in the tip owing to the blanks length tapering off that long. He rekons they load up quite parabolically for kingies and work the lighter stick stick baits well. Haha, problem being their first batch got cleaned out. They have another lot of blanks ordered but will be about 2-3 months before they are all ready. Sound the goods so I'll get one then.

Couldn't hold back for a trip this weekend so scored a T-Curve.

Ginga - I had a swing on one of those Monster Mesh. Is the one you talkng about that standard 8'3 200g beasts. I found them really stiff and pretty stiff in the tip as well. Suppose it is one thing having a bend in the shop with the shop person and another being attached to a 25kg king, experience would know.

I wonder - how is that possible, the reserve was met - surely a legal contract to sell was entered into?

I'd be mighty peeved if I was the bidder!Angry
