This will be getting some more attention...

190mm and 65g unriggeed...More of a tuna bait but will scale the size up to 250mm or so for the Kingies... Pure surface action, rod sweeps make the bait go just under the surface weaving and darting, then breaking the surface and skipping. I am thinking it would suit surface feeding fish/ bait ball situations...

Will need testing in the field, and refining yet...

Tried shooting video, but it's blowing like crazy and I will lose my camera one day trying to film and work a lure by myselfLOL

....actually, a thought, but if these are surface working lures, why not have the eyes on the reverse (underside) of the way you have them there. With a nice red "gill-flash"
And for a surface lure, a nice fluro coloured flash on the back to make it easier to see where the lure is at distance.....

That sure looks the business. I especially like the look of the clear finish which seems like it will be a lot more treble proof than some of the stick baits available at present.Very keen to add a couple to the arsenal when they're available.I 've no doubt you'll have lots of magpies lining up.Smile

I hear ya' Capt...Wink

If I put the eyes underneath it will look stupid! LOL I could add some bling to the belly, something with a bit of flash... I have always been skeptical of things like painted gills etc... I would have to argue if it makes a difference? or can it been seen through bubbles etc created by a lure working through the water... I have been swayed to the dark side lately with colours, I will paint something fluro next!

I do however like big eyes... IMO I think it makes a difference and the fish see it as a weakness, big eyes = juvenile fish, juvenile fish = weakness, weakness = lunch Big smile

Sadly Raptor, all baits suffer the same fate with hook rash... I have tried a lot of products and had mixed results, only thing I can't try is commercial finish's due to the expense and investment in gear needed to use/apply the finish. Most of all a lot of these finishes are not safe for small end users...

I use a 2 part epoxy for the final clear coat... It doesn't dry super rock hard, I have found really hard finishes chip easy which starts the process of the clear falling off...

I have plenty of interest in baits, but I am in no rush to release some rubbish lure. I want to eliminate as many variables as I can, baits like the one above may never be made for sale depends on where and what lure I want to focus on...Right now my efforts are on making a King fish stick bait, tuna style baits are not a priority but fun to play with...

Keep your eye's peeled, will have some stick baits in testing at the J&C comp later in the month...Wink

They do look very good Sam, definitely two thumbs up! I have a couple of Dennis not of the braids stickbaits to trial in the comp, yours are just as nice.
Capt A You might just need glasses to see the lures? My mum told me about doing something to much that would make me blind , but I cant remember what it was???

ADDIT: I should add before someone makes a wise crack I can see the stickbaits working just fine!

Well of course you can Titahi... I mean,I could too if I only cast as far as you...... :-)
I don't think painted on gills are much chop either RAL, but a nice big flash of red under the chin... like a decent thumbprint size, I reckon that looks good to me at least :-) Totally agree with big eyes though, I do think that rings dinner bells for the fish as well....

No wonder Denis hasn't made my bait yet! Let me know how they go for you... They remind me of Runboh's, but I have only seen photo's so they could be different.
