Hi all,

Just wondering, when does the squid season begin around Whangarei area? Last year I've had some luck around Marsden point warf, albeight it was round late October - early November.

Keen as to get out there this weekend (mate has a bach near by), and just wondering - are there any squid around this time of the year?

Thanks,
Nick

One more thing - does tide matter? If so - which phase is the best? :)

I was there this week on Tuesday and Thursday - caught my 1st two squid!!

I also caught my biggest trevally ever (an hr or 2 after high tide).

Kadin is right, you want to get there before dark to get a good spot. Once it get gets dark the walkway area gets quite busy with squid anglers and people fishing for trevally. Take some food and warm gear and settle in for the change of tide (for the trevally - about 9.30 tonight). You should be able to see the squid coming in after your jig from time to time, once it is dark the lights are quite good for lighting up the water.

Pity I am not still up there or else you would have been competing with me for the prime spot that Kadin mentioned.

Good luck.

Cliff
