ive got the same rod saltiga expedition and am really impressed with the rod i use it for both popping and stickbaits and for the money i cant find a better deal, the build quality is also excellent as for the reel ive got a couple of smaller stradics and there fine but havnt tried the 8000, sounds like a good outfit.

Mainly Kings, Aldies, Raglan, 3 kings (weather dependent), bit of both, pe 5.
Looking at just a basic set. Stradic8000 has 13kg drag, pe 5 is enough. Rods look mint for the price.

How much is the rod?

Got the multi weight 200-300grm 24-37kg for $450 from fish city. Very nice looking rod and feels pretty grunty, can't wait to get it loaded up on a big coro king, still deciding on the reel to buy to go with it.

Hey i got the 5000 which seems to be a decent reel the 8000 feels like it could fit the bill..there also a brand new Saragosa 14000f on trademe that a guy imported if thats not too heavy?

If you knew you were going to stay in the sport I would look for a second hand spinner like a Twin power 10,Stella 10,or salty-reason being that they will fish say 7-9kg of drag without too much hassle.
Even though the specs say that reel is capable of 13kg that is probably best case scenario and it will be working hard to give you that result.
The other reels will do it without dying in the process.
That said Im sure it will get you into the sport and do the job,but if you go do it every weekend you may find yourself wanting to up grade sooner than later and the resale for the stradic may not be as good.
I am unfamiliar with the rod,but rate Offshore softbait rods highly owning a few myself, but would maybe spend more on the reel if this is a starter set and buy a used rod for bugger all and change up when you feel the need.
On sunday we fished PE5 to its limits on these reels - it is plenty IMO..although I will get a PE8-10 set up in the future for some of the scary machines that we saw and for traveling to the tropics again.

Looking at a 2nd hand Stella or new Saragosa. Decisions decisions!

Had a Saragosa S#it out on me in Tonga, so not soo keen on them now.
Only want a popper set up as another option to jigging.

Sustain would be a good medium between Stradic and TwinpowerSW.

Haha I have heard a few guys say that now, including me...I treat them both the same now as they compliment each other and it gives variety to your day and learning.
A mate of mine who I havent seen for years just boughts a stella 10 and Kabitsu today after watching us fish on sunday- he's mad keen!
