Well I've just completed a batch of stickbaits that I'm pretty happy with.

Definitely my most complete effort so far but there are still quite a few imperfections to smooth out..... all in good time. I've got some pics and a little video of one swimming in the pool.

Its pretty difficult to pick them up on video and the pool definitely isn't the best place for testing, there not much room and because there isn't much line out the movement of the baits is somewhat restricted. Good enough for a general idea.

Taking them up North next week where I will be giving them a good hammering over a couple of weeks.

Really happy with the tail wraps

The indentations at the front are a personal concept of mine. Gives the baits a nice bubble trail and makes them easier to swim as they are less likely to scatter on the surface.

And finally a little video

Mint job bro, how much?

What timber did you make them out of?

Awesome thanks guys.

Not for sale, I'm taking them fishing. They are made out of ceder.

The top 4 are of two different designs at 200mm long and 100g.

Some mistakes were made in shaping the bottom two blue ones, havn't tested those yet so they might still be okay.

Too much Mark, alot of work right there and well finished...

What length are they? How did you get on with reproducing the weight for each bait...

Do you use a split body method? just looking at your belly hook hanger and the tail wraps, but can't figure out how the hanger is held in place???

Is the bait in the vid rigged with hooks? Has alot of roll and belly flash, looks good...

Can't wait to hear how you get on, top stuff and keep it up Clap

Cheers Sam, yeh doing split body.... haven't got a lathe do drill the through wire accurately so I just start of with two lengths of ceder joined together with dowel to keep the two sides matched up throughout the shaping. I router out slots for the through wire. Drill a 10mm hole down the tail section before glueing, once glue is dry I pour the lead for tail weight then figure out much is needed in the belly.

Probably makes the job a lot longer but I like the fact that the lure is completely sealed and very strong given its got epoxy running through the middle of it. My tail section by design is very narrow and would probably snap quite easy with traditional construction.

I might do a step by step thread with the next lot, was in a bit of a hurry to get these finished.

They are 200mm long, might try make them a with less weight next time. Design goal for this lot was to make them swim easily so that they can be used in all conditions but yes they have got hooks on them in the video.

They sit a bit lower in the water than my cherry pie, but I can't swim the cherry pie in the pool.

I just did some more extensive testing at the panmure yacht club and I'm pretty disappointed with them

Not that easy to swim and action too lazy for my liking due to, to much tail weight. The action is better with no tail hook but I think those holes at the front is actually making them difficult to swim.

Causing to much roll, going to fill them with epoxy and see if that help.

Bugger guess you live and learn.

Mean bro mean. Very tidy job. Good to see you don't do things by halves, and go the extra mile in your R + D. Keep on keeping on. Look even better hangin' from the gob of a Northland rod bender. Time to get that TPSW screaming with joy. Thought those nice faces in your shapes would have sorted out the body roll. It'll get them flashing any how. Will be good to compare notes i.e. poke and hope vs math and science. Damn, I'm inspired. If only I could find my tools in the neglected Lab, let alone get in the door.

Sound good bro, heading off tomorrow. Weather ain't looking to hot but.......... well you know whats happens when I want to go fishing LOL

Lures should be fine, was in a bit of a s*&t yesterday. At the end of the day you don't really know what it is exactly a king looks for in a lure action so you just got to put them in the water and find out.

The cherry pie has a pretty lazy, rolly action and thats worked out for me all right.

Mate I've said it before, and I'll say it again, your entire approach to fishing is incredibly impressive, and these lures just prove that again... fantastic work bud, very well done and can't wait to see the report with one of these hanging out of a Kingies mouth, no doubt these lures are gonna get smashed...

Let us know when you willing to put a couple together for a paying customer, I know I'll get in line!

Cheers mate unfortunately no topwater lures got smashed, not even the cherry pie. I just couldn't find the fish........... No surprises though really the coastline had nets all over it, reefs that normally guarantee boil ups were DEAD!

Tried out deep, had bait fish up to 25m but the kings were underneath so it was jigs only. Think I'll do some charters, let the pros find the fish so I can test my lures out proper.

Was intent on staying at Bach until I got some decent topwater sessions but a King I jigged up had other ideas.

Loading up a video now and will post in reports section, its as painful as it is funny.

Cheers for the compliment boys, definitely a lot of effort involved in the process.

Wire is 1.5mm 316 welding wire. I just get it from a local stainless steel welder for $1 a 900mm length. Not the easiest stuff to work with as its pretty stiff.

Foils are from http://hooptapecanada.com/........ ahhh yep thats right, tape for hoola hoops EmbarrassedLOL can't say its my thing but the tape is good quality, nice range and far cheaper than the stuff you get from fishing shops.
