Is it just me but I find this black sheep really difficult to get to swim right ? I'm using st66 2/0 and a McWorks Broomstick 806 , would the new 84/22 be better , larger hooks ? I have no problems using the broomstick with gammas , falcons etc .Any one else tried this stickbait?

Is that the 60g one?
What is incorrect about the action?
Rod could be one thing for sure although with a broomstick as Im sure you already know just adjust you sweep speed, length
Maybe leader/hooks aswell?
I find even attachemnts effect swimming swivel vs tied on etc also if tied on where the knot sits on the eyelet.

Didn't know which hooks to use but thought the 2s as the lure is the 60gr, lure is very splashy and hard to pull under consistantly at the start of the sweep, have tried different strokes , and have tried tieing straight on as well as a loose loop. Using 80lb mono leader. Maybe just more practice .....

Caught me those colours , beautifully finished .Just got to get it swimming real good, some of the time it swims really well , especially 20-30mtr out but hard to control at 50-60mtr but then when I first tried swimming the gammas they looked real bad too.

does it not pull under with a low rod and slow accelerating action ? have found a few that need the slower action and low rod.

Have been using rod tip just off the water all the way through the sweep and also trying a slightly raised rod tip , say 75cm , at the start of the sweep, dropping it to water level . I haven't tried an accelerating action , will give it a go . I've been trying an even speed through the pull and a fast start and decelarating . Tried different speed and tried pulling as soon as the head comes up, sometimes with a slow pull it just skims across the surface. Will get back to you all.

Another one is to take up the slack and do a constant wrist flick,no sweep just a vertical flick of the wrist almost like the start of a back cast flyfishing ,I guess every turn of the handle I would do two flicks - its quite fast but the constant tension and action gets hard to swim baits swimming...hard to explain

Has a wide as belly section and tends to get a bit of lift off that and easy to get a bit of a tumble skip rather than dig its nose in proper. Thats what I find anyways. Calm water and a more relaxed seep seems to work good.
Try bigger hooks particularly on the belly section. Bit of a finickity lure, but then I find carpenter also misbehave as well.

Falco , like the carpenter dvd for pencils ? Have tried constant tension , with a short sweep similar to how you can keep a killer sub surface . Will try your suggestion tommorow. Sid just got back in and found what you said spot on , very slow sweep and on flat water it seemed to behave, Previously i've tried in quite a bit of chop / wind , but swimming it with the current has helped. Will try a st66 3/0 on the belly tommorow.Used a tight knot today .

I havent seen any of the DVD's so not sure, but it sounds similar to what you say about keeping the killer sub surface, although its not a sweep just flicking the rod tip straight down short and sharp without a pause.

short flicks of the rod tip , almost like tapping and a constant wind of the reel , I only tried it the once on a small popper but found it a really diffficult action to get right, something else to practice.Carpenters dvd has them using this technique for pencil poppers.

I think maybe you might be trying to hard to get it to swim, i seen one in action today and looks more like a walk the dog style lure.
I would just work the rod from side to side and have it walking across the surface with its nose out of the water.

Tried Sid , Falco and Ginga's ideas briefly ( bad back ) this morning . Preference is to put a 3/0 on the belly and a v.slow sweep find it swims really good , misses some of the really good action 2/0s give it but more control over the whole distance. Falco's idea gives it a fairly straight retrive but still a fish catching action I think , Ginga's idea actually ended up looking similar to Falco's on the water , slightly more of a side to side swim . I still want it to swim like a stickbait so I'll try the 3/0 on the belly again and also using the 2/0 and maybe even customising a hook with some fly tying lead .Thanks for the good advise , all three ideas were working way better than what I originally had happening.

Nice Legacy, quite a collectors lure. How does the lure sit at rest? As this will most likely give you an idea of what action to expect...Looking at the tow piont and belly section it gives me the impression it will "skitter" when you sweep the rod...Nice lure to have tho

Rory, try attaching the lure to the trace via a NT swivel(or similar) and split ring. I have the larger version of your lure and the extra weight up front definately helps to get the nose digging in....
