Finally found some Stainless wire at Mitre10 Mega on Lincoln rd, Henderson. Was $24 for a reasonable roll of 1mm wire. Also I've been using some scrap 1mm copper wire to geed effect.

To make eylets - take a 6" piece of wire and form an eye half way around a 4" nail in a vice. Cross over the ends of the wire 45 degrees in each direction in a kind of Y shape with an eye. Take a pair of pliers over the two ends and with a pulling motion twist the pliers around and you will get a twisted tail starting to form. If you make this tail a good length and araldite it into a 1/8" hole on a wooden popper it wont pull out under strain. Two of us pulling with all our strength couldn't seperate it.
