10 of us left Tauranga on the Nimble 2 friday arvo and headed to white to catch livies till 1am then a quick kip then at 4am were heading 2.5 hours out to the Rangatira Reef .

Arrive to a bit of a swell and feeling a wee bit nervous about getting into the yak from the boat without tipping out but all went well . Really hard work with the livies going down 140m and the current pushing us way off the reef very quickly so ALOT of hard paddling was required with not much fishing time .

I had my shimano TDL 25 spooled with 80lb suffix braid and a brand new Jigstar 250 kojak recently bought off Boulder . ( Thanks for the advice on the 80lb braid Boulder , I needed it ! ) .

Anyway had my PB king from a kayak with a modest 10 or 12 kg fish woohoo , very hard work trying to stay upright in the swells .
A couple of hours latter and the reel goes bannanas !
I had the drag set at 8kg , just enough not to get pulled out of the kayak with that jigstar 250 folded in half !!!
Big bronzie was my call after 10 minutes of battle , not knowing what the hell i would do when it finnally surfaced !!!
Another 10 minutes latter and i fair **** myself when i saw a monster king 6 feet under the yak !!!
Finnally he was next to the yak and i was trembling at the shear size of this beast !
I put the gaff into him and he went ballistic nearly throwing me out of the yak !!!
Another yakker gave me a hand to put another gaff in and we paddled back to the boat with the beast between us as it was to big to lift onto my lap !

After losing alot of blood it weighed in at 36.5 kgs

Ill get the missus to post some pics up later if we can figure out how to do it as im hopeless with the computer .
Ive got a mate posting some pics on the KAYAK FISHING NZ website abit later on today !

Im the happiest fisherman in the world today !!!

The winding arm and shoulder was acheing a fair bit and are stiff , but my left wrist ( lifting arm ) is really sore today because when he decided to run he just pulled my rod down and had it bent something shocking !

I did get up and plane a little but because it was so deep it was mostly a straight up and down fight with the fish trying to pull me into the depths . Smile

Yeah i saw you guys hollering and going hard jigging on pursuit . We were the crazy mofos paddling hard out to get small opportunity to drop our rigs and try and hook up . Its amazing how voices travel across the sea , i could hear a few of your mates talking about us silly buggers in our kayaks in the middle of nowhere .
Our 3 best fish went 18 , 22 and 36.5 kg .
Kayakers do amazingly well considering we fish from a hunk plastic , Ive only been yak fishing for around 4 years now but ive caught way more fish and bigger fish than when i had my tinny .
By the sounds of you fullas you all had a great time with Rick Pollock jigging your heart out !

Cheers kk Smile
