Hey guys and gals,

Just putting the feelers out to see what interest there would be in handmade wooden lure kits. Kits with all you need to make the lure minus the paint and hooks, just paint and rig. Would these be of interest to Kiwi Fisho's? Will keep the lure range to topwater at the moment for arguments sake.

Any advice or feedback welcome,

Thanks, RAL

Great, I will make up a few trial kits and go from there. Hopefully have some ready to go in a couple of weeks as I will need to make a mold for casting weights. Will post on the For Sale thread when ready.

Turned a half a dozen lure bodies up this arvo with more to come, I personally use a lighter weight lure but what weights would suit the masses? Also lengths, again I like most of my lures around 150-160mm but there is no limit... Suggestions?

Cheers

About 3-4 oz, but it does depend on where the weight is in relation to the shape. The blank lure weight will also affect how much and where it is added.

Poppers at this stage 2cold, I will be working on these and hopefully get a few pics up with a few different styles shortly.

In the future I will work on a kit style stickbait, there is alot more work in stickbaits when trying to reproduce each bait by hand, but I will see how we get on.

Here is two styles of poppers that I will be making up in kit form. Hopefully this week I will be able to get into the engineering shop and see if I can get a custom mold cnc'd for casting the lead tail weights for these lures.....Nothing ever happens quickly enough!Angry

Top Popper is 130mm ( 5") long and will be around the 3oz mark without hooks. 10 degree angle in the face ( hard to see in pictures )

Bottom Popper is 200mm ( 8") long and will be in the area of 4.5oz - 5oz without hooks. 5 degree angle in the face. Both should put up a nice splashWink

I have been working on a stick bait model on the side and hopefully will be able to include this option in the near future also.

Yeah stikck bait for me, something long and thin that I can paint up like a piper - would make an awesome Xmas prezzie for the DIY fisher in the family (meLOL)

I waste most of my money on fishing tackle. The rest I invest in women and booze.

Hey DH, I have made up piper style lures before, here is a pic of a jointed spook/stickbait I made a while ago. By memory it was 20-25mm in diameter and 240mm long and was weighted to sink slowly when not retrieved. Would something the same or similar suit?

Hey Unlimited,  Not as yet, once I have the weight sorted for the above lures, I will get some footage. I will be sending out some trial kits for evaluation to some F.net members and hopefully they can give some feedback.

Hey there mole,

That is a good question, I am currently working on finished baits and due to how labour intensive finished lures are the kits have hit the back burner. I am also in the process of creating a new popper with the help from Falco, I have just recieved some spec's today so this may well be able to be offered in kit form. But one thing is sure I don't want to produce some rubbish lure that is no good for anything. I will keep you posted Smile
