Hello all,

Just got a Kontiki long line and keen to try it out. It is the standard setup, with a mate paddling the kayak to set the line. When I get a bot more knowledge I'll purchased one of those electric torpedos.

Where is a good spot north of the harbour bridge to get some snapper. Have heard talk about Orewa and Army Bay. I tried it this morning at Rothesay Bay with only on under sized snapper as a result.

Cheers, BlueFinger.

Hey BlueFinger,

Saw a guy setting a kontiki off Orewa once. Not bad results either, if i remember corectly had roughly 10 - 12 snapper off two sets. All legal as well. So pretty sure that beach would be worth a crack. The guy was sending out the baits just before dark. He had a seahorse so went out quite  a way, about 2 km. Good luck

Have fished Orewa northern end safest if bottom rig and also red beach an option.
If you can set early or in the evening on an incoming you will have more success.

I have had a few walks along Orewa beach and you will see lots of TuaTuas there (Live ones) so it is obvious there are TuaTua beds there....fish where you see lots of them on shore, and set the line in the calmer spots cause thats where the "guts n gutters are" and may hold fish.

I STARTED THE DAY WITH NO FISH AND I STILL HAVE PLENTY LEFT
