Right guys, time for another casual comp for us landbased fishos and this one can include anyone in NZ.
Here is the deal:
- Fish landbased anywhere you like within NZ over labour weekend (Sat 23rd to Monday 25th October). - Take photos of your catch and be sure to include in the photo a BLUE CLOTHES PEG to validate the fish was caught over this weekend. All entries must also be photographed with a measuring device (tape measure, ruler, mof sticker etc) to prove the length of the fish. - Post up the pics of your best fish in this thread by Friday 29th October and the 'winners' will be announced Monday the 1st of November. - Categories are open so feel free to photo whatever catch ya like. Keep or release...its all good! - Entry is free so no prizes just a gloat opportunity
And remember - pics or it didn't happen!

Good stuff guys.
The beauty of doing it this way is that you can enter this virtual comp whilst out fishing in other comps or during a family holiday. Dont need to fish the whole time either. Just catch a fish or 2 during the 3 days...

I will be with the family around Taupo. Can trout be included in the list?

sweet! well timed JK
another advantage is that because it's just a photo of length the fish can be released if you like aswell, though it would pay to have the measuring device and mystery item to be real handy so the fish isn't out of the water too long.

Good on ya Jade for putting this up. No plans yet for that weekend, but hoping to catch one and put one up.
I reckon we should go all species, I mean its close to Shark season right and Rays are starting to plague the shore. Just be kind enough to let release it if you dont plan to eat it, like the last one.

Sounds like I better stay up in Russell after finishing the Coastal Classic in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Only problem will be the skipper who won't let me take my fishing gear due to the extra weight.

Unfortunately my attempt in the deep south has been swindled by those evil barstools who make up exam timetables
Have one on the Friday, one on the Saturday (who the **** makes an exam on a Saturday, that's just plain wrong..) and one on the Monday, so much for public holiday
Look forward to how everyone else gets on though, and only a few weeks before the migration north for the summer- finally be able to go after something that doesn't eat all your gear or fight like Stephen McIvor

Corner creek is fishable in a 2 meter swell, also the swell is dropping fast according to fisherman(cray man) at Ngawi the beach it self will be ok 1-1.5meter dropping easy fishable, there is also spots that dont get the wind(northerly) as the hill is right behind you,be keen seen some great fish caught in a swell and as the beach is so steep(drop off) the fish will be close catching crabs

Hit Rawhiti yesterday.
On the road at 3am, took a slow drive got the rocks at just before 8. Got the burley going which was a bit slow to start with.
By 10 the KY showed up in force. And we were plucking livies out every few seconds. Had KY of varying sizes under the balloon the whole day.
At about 11 after cubing pillies into the back of the burley trail we dropped a mini bonito frame into the water WHAM out of know where a massive kingi comes charging in a grabs it. Carried on cubing it carried on munching pillie bits. Biffed a pillie out with the hook attached and it ignored it. Through some bigger bits of bonito and i munched those biffed a bit of bonito out with hook attached and it ignored it. Dragged the livie into the area and it spent about 5 min doing figure 8's under it keeping it on the surface but didn't take it. Got the popped going which it followed but wouldn't take.
And that was the high point of the day. It hung around for about 15min tasting everything with out a hook in it then buggered off.
We had the burley going hard for a few more hours then just before low everything went DEAD! wind changed tide went slack and we didn't see or catch another KY or anything for 3 odd hours so pulled the pinn and headed back.
My Ben stopped to look at the area from the top of the hill behind rocks and says to "Bro we have unfinnished business here" to which I replied hard bro hard.
Was an aboslutley cracker day though has just got me amping harder for summer.

Back from the rapa.
A few lemons and lots of red sods . Both Scuzzy and I both got a few smaller 5kg ish lemons and two 9kg versions .
The bay was startlingly quiet no birds working up and no kahawai for us at all. Will add some pics once I have finished cleaning the wagon and gear up.

First of a few for the evening . Shameless plug for the soniks they handled the fish fantastically

My first one .

Bigger one . Scuzzy also got one the same sort of size but I had buggered off to have a sleep and the camera was in my wagon.

Took the IRB a few hours north early this morning for a spot of LBG with Andrew (Levinlarge) and Steve.
Pretty slow day on the rock as to be expected but a good start with my first fish just shy of 60cm so about 4kg or so.
Second fish was a much better fish and my best for the day at 71cm and I guess close to 7kg. Good bit of fun on the new 8000D baitrunner. Spooled it up with 8kg and seems a nice reel.
Not much else to tell other than flat seas and burnt knees. Smokers going on tomorrow mmm

I think it was no good anywhere in Welly, we hit castle point Sunday and today, a lot of fisherman there, nice clean water, blue skies, but no fish, The biggest fish we saw the whole time was approx 20cm Kahawai, we were the last ones to leave last night, and 3rd back there this morning.
Was still a nice place to spend a couple days away from home though

Wondering where abouts you were fishing on the beach? Caught a 12kg king off the beach there (and had 3 kings smoke us on 3 consecutive days in the same spot) last summer and some solid snaps too.

Sounds like I should have come along, I missed out on the fishing and the fireworks. I was wondering how you got on but didn't see a report so figured it must have been hard going out there on Sunday.
