Mike I just go swivel, split, lure and have the leader long enough to do a few turns around spool when casting. Swivel and grommet would be good thou I'm thinking. Tried out the Pr knot in the weekend and casted sweet as.

Tend to tie to a swivel then stickbait attached via split ring for convenience in changeablity.
Notice that most of the top Japanese anglers tie direct to the lure, possibly due to less hardware gives more direct and positive action? Who knows.
Leader length around 3-5 wraps on the spool with lure hanging in casting position. I like to have a leader long enough to grab when the fish come up boat side rather than having it short to assist in casting.

Agree with Josh on leader length, that length is perfect for me and allows for a few lure changes before i need to retie leader. That length leader ends up being about 1.5 times your rod length as a rough guide, this length leader is going to help us when we do hook up a marlin.
I use a Pr knot or FG knot, the fg casts better but not by much.

What knot do you use to tie directly to the lure Ginga.
At the moment I run 3 wraps around spool and out to 2/3rds of rod length (casting position) to a swivel with split ring for easy change overs.

Forget fluro, even run of the mill mono is not that nice to cast when you get up around 100lb+
Varivas Shock Leader or Fisherman Stealth Leader. Beautiful!.

The reason I ask for this Info is, I am having problems withmy stick baits spinning in the water. they do large rotations going 3 -4 feet down and them come up kick the surface. I thought perhaps my leader setup was the problem :( seems I run a similar setup to most of you. about 3 meter leader connected straight to the SB. any ideas? this of coarse causes massive line twist. My current rig is fluro 100lb about 3 meters attached by a shorter Pr knot to help with casting. then smoothed over with knot sense. attached to lure directly. I run Nomad ulua/dogtooth 90/120 with 2 x sj41 9/0's at the front and a 7/0 jobu at the back.  |

How do you find the PR knot holds up?
I've found it gets knocked around a bit from constant casting and the knot going through the guides at pace....

Yeh the PR does get knocked around a bit and so does the FG as well.
The knots tend to get stretched out a bit in the finishing off zone. I see someone on here using knot sense, i think this will be a good idea to aid casting and help the knots hold up a bit longer.

Yep, go back to the original treble's and see if that makes a bit of a diffenece. Also ditch the fluro and go to supple trace, will impove your casting and may also be contributing to the twist due to memory and stiffness in the water.

Try just changing the belly hook which will help hold the stickbait in the water, while the single on the tail helps free up the action. -------------
