as a number of people have said on here, BURLEY BURLEy BURLEY.. otherwise theres no incentive for the baitfish to come there, and no baitfish = no keepers.. so use a bread+water+fish oil, slurry and spoon in.. great for herring and piper, and the bigger fish love to see them eating and causing a comotion, then easy peasy you stick your softie down and boom, your on.. LOL

Ahh i dont mean softbaiting in a berley trail just softbaiting around the wharf from time to time.. not spending enough time to make a nice trail to attract bigger fish just target fish already feeding around the poles... a quick fishing fix :)

oh ok, go for it mate, the good thing about softies is that you can fish a whole lot of water.. and when youve had enough pack up and walk a couple hundred m down and try there.. so try from side to side on the wharf, and the good thing is the people already there fishing with smelly bait, is the fish are probly already there..

alot of people tackle the wharfs for spotties.. i see alot of the asian community particularly fishing for spotties, i dont know if they eat them or what, but they leave with a bucket load of very small spotties.. Ermm

I watched an older gentleman do this at miramar wharf.
My son was fascinated with his process.
Using a cage of some sort with crushed shellfish suspended with a rope.
Sat on his car. snoozed for 20 mins. A quick haul up and empty the results into a bucket
He had a bucketful of spottys swimming round. Rinse and repeat.
I said g'day  and asked him, Thinking they were intended for bait
In his word they were good eating. very sweet flesh. Lots of small bones tho. No good for kids

I have seen both kites and electric kontikis being launched off the beach before but its a popular beach and can have a lot of swimmers kayakers jet skis etc on it as well . So you will need to pick your days carefully .
