W.S Laurie & Co and Bradley Smokers
2010 Game Season Roundup

Well the Game Fishing Season is well and truly over, most of us have the rods and the rest of the game fishing gear tucked away in the back of the garage and we have around about  5 months to wait until the excitement will start building again and the season will be back into full swing once again.

We would like to thank everyone who participated this season. I can see on reflection that for some of us it was definatly a harder season than last year and that the ability to be in the right place at the right time was a major factor in success along with the ability to adapt from good old lures into live baiting when the Lure bite was off. You just have to look at the great runs of fish out of Waihau Bay and Tutukaka later in the season to see that those who were able to work these areas did well.

Thank you once again to the Tornament Committee of Boulder, Kezza, Weighmaster, Obald, Bushpig and Grunta for assisting with the running of this one of a kind competition.

Our biggest thanks though need to go to our brilliant sponsors as there is nothing better than being able to get a little reward back for such tremendous efforts out on the high seas so thanks again to Bradley Smokers, W.S Laurie & Co and also.

Peter Pakula  -  Legend Lures   - Olympus  - Boulder Guiding  -  Fishing.net.nz -   Driveline Finance

Also to the Wright Family for putting up the " ILEX TROPHY " last year which we all hope will be one of the most sought after trophies around in the years to come .

After much consideration we have been able to finalise the biggest decision of the year and that was for the finalists of the " ILEX TROPHY"  and the eventual winner.

We had 4 finalists this year as follows.
  • Carl Muir ( Epic) with his 137.45KG Blue Marlin on 15kg
  • Zahra Hendy  (Mrs B ) with her 150KG Daytime Broadbill
  • Jon Terrall ( Tazee ) and the biggest fish of the season with his Blue at 229KG
  • NZTURTLE with his T & R Solo capture.

Now this ended up being a real hard decison  for the judges as all of the finalists in there own right and for there own reasons were meritorious, so we narrowed it further by vote to two finalists being :

  • Zahra Hendy  (Mrs B ) with her 150KG Daytime Broadbill on Te Ariki Nui
  • NZTURTLE with his T & R Solo virgin busting capture out of Tutukaka.
And after  a weeks worth of debate we were dead locked at 3 : 3 with a deal breaker  required. Our back up vote arrived and we can announce the "ILEX TROPHY" winner.

The "ILEX" Trophy

Most Meritorious Catch or Angling Achievement Of the Season.

also in association with Peter Pakula at "Pakula Tackle "

David Walker ( NZ Turtle )

Now as we are all aware, our friend Dave has endured quite a bit over over quite a few seasons, being the brunt of many a joke and quiet enuendo. He has learned to live with the title of "The Lemon " and it seemed for quite some time that any boat that he would be on would bare the brunt of this great hoodoo with the result in most cases being that the boat remained fishless. This man has persevered though and has not wavered from his virtuous path which to a great extent opitomises the culture of the forum and the people in it.  Any lesser man may have given up for the season and chucked his toys out of the sandpit , but, Dave heads out at the end of the season, one more time and finally the miracle happens , everything comes together at the right time and he lands his 1st marlin and Solo to boot which the judges this year acknowledge as the angling achievement of the season ! ! !

Congratulations to all our winners and to the supreme winner of the Ilex trophy (there were a few very strong contenders for that trophy) , NZTurtle.  Well done Dave.

Congratulations to everyone that participated and a mighty BIG THANK YOU to Lance (Wetspot) for putting a lot of effort into this years comp. Cheers Lance, really appreciate your input on this and there's a lot of work that goes into making it happen.

Lance was ably supported by the tournament committee of Boulder, Kezza, Bushpig, Obald and Weighmaster. Many thanks for your input too men, you did a great job.

Special thanks to all the sponsors that have been involved this year.  Remember the businesses that support your site when you're renewing, upgrading or just adding more kit to the collection.Thumbs Up

The best picture video winner has been announced as Josh W for his shot of the young angler with a marlin. Again a few strong contenders but than one took it out on a close call. Thanks to HE Perry the NZ Olympus agents for the support on that and the prize.

Some great action over the season and thanks for sharing your success stories!
