Took my 10 month old lab pup for a hunt on Saturday afternoon. We were after a pheasant and I had a resonable idea where we would find one or two.

As we walked a fence line a large number of birds broke and shifted position. Thinking to myself that it would be nice if they were quail i kept walking towards them. Holy crap I thought as we got  close they are quail. Resisting the urge to shoot in fear of flushing the pheasant I continued on. Twice pulling the dog back from where she wanted to go.

After hunting around where "I" thought we should be hunting we ended up flushing a quail, I swung hrough the shot and dropped it, of course up goes a rooster and there goes my chance. Naturally it was where the dog wanted to hunt. Note to self trust the dog.

We continued down the track flushing a number of quail, with me dropping another 2. Mistka my lab pup found all 3 birds, which was great as I would have had a lot of trouble finding them with out her. She is still hesitant to pick them up, but has no trouble tracking the scent.

With 3 birds in the bag I was happy.

Sounds like a good day out. Never shot these before - how many do you need for a feed. They look pretty snack sized compared to a duck or pheasant

If a man goes nowhere and theres no one there to see him, did he ever leave?

You would need a few if you were going to eat just them. I put them in a roasting bag with the pheasant. Might be ting but taste dam fine
