Everyone knows mate...Seriosuly. Its Old news. People just don't go there because Ti point is like 20mins clsoer , and its a much better dive on a good day IMO.

Kirlu: Te Arai became the new Ti Point in the 1990's, then Mathesons and Ti became the New Te Arai in the 2000's, so it will be Ok if Te Arai again becomes the new Ti Point in the 2010's.
Is it true , That there used to be Teraki and Goldies and te arai? That Cray cave there ( no crays no more ) would look a nice house for a goldie or 2.

Takatu point, like mutton chop sideburns and hairy chests, will never go out of style

Yeah but Takatu is a bit of a mission as a shorey, so will never be as attractive.
Spaz: There used to be pinkies there. A year or so back there were a couple seen there again. I expect they might have gone the same way as the one I found at Challenger Island at Kawau - in the pan...

Not so sure about your king tarakihi story spearcrazy, doubt many people would be able to tell the difference.....while diving... in 10 metres.

There was a very large terakihi lost there by one of my dive buddies, don't know if it was a king T, but definitely loads bigger than the average northland Terakihi.
Here is a music vid that I shot the underwater sequences for. It's is a little different.... some of you will know the location well

Can anyone recommend where to get a cheap and reliable underwater camera from?
Posted By: baffled
Date Posted: 10 Jul 2010 at 6:59pm
How cheap? $500 should get a decent 10m camera with HD video.
I would recommend Panasonic FT2 but it does cost a bit more than the others. I have the FT1 which is good but its 3m depth rating is a bit weak and buttons stop working past 6m.
Or get a gopro hero if you just want video, though HD version has troubles with focussing underwater.

Date Posted: 10 Jul 2010 at 9:26pm
wrong tread to ask about this, but why not just buy a normal cam and buy a underwater case for it.
got a cannon is80 with a case.. it is good 50m down.
look on the previous page to see the quality of it...

Had a play with my camera's slow motion setting this weekend. unfortunately the fish that is being speared is behind another one and the wide-angle lens doesn't help in this instance either. So not the best video ever buy thought I'd put it up anyway...

Meh. What's the difference how you aim a speargun (should you be evolved enough to use one *smirk*).
You still have to be swimming around in the sea (with or without scuba) with a nice warm suit, mask, fins etc.
Anyone got a scope on their hunting rifle? Oh, the irony of a laser sight on an old timber Riffe (double wrapped I admit)

I think that tuna was shot feeding under a shrimp boat or something - very like the big pacific bluefin down south, when they are feeding like that they are not particularly worried about anything else. I reckon you could have shot those ones with a powered up 75cm gun no probs. Great video though!

Saw the Oceans movie tonight. Disappointing. Some gorgeous footage but too much of a focus on marine mammals for me and really only scratched the surface, literally as well as figuratively, with everthing being in the very top layer and nothing about some of the interesting stuff going on in the depths. On top of that the narrative had a preachy tone that annoyed me.
There are much better documentary series around IMHO eg Blue Planet and the stuff the BBC did in the Planet Earth series

An excellent lesson in streamlining (IMHO)
These are the chaps that made the news skating somewhere near Ti Point, but watch the guy with the camera slow himeself to get the best shot of the most stupid one of the bunch and then gather speed again - all from streamlining (with a previous bit of slipstreaming, which isn't so relevant to spearfishing I admit)

Ok so not as impressive but it was raining this day on training runs on other days came pretty close to cars coming uphill when trying to pass cars going down.(i'm the one falling off at 51seconds). but that guy did an impressive slingshot from behind that truck the guy wearing only shorts and t-shirt no shoes theres a classic example of idiocy.
