Grandson Alec has been harping for a while now to come out on opening day, this year he got the nod, we found him a 410 to use and the days leading up Saturday could'nt go fast enough, him and Dad flew in from Queenstown on Thursday, Friday was spent on gun safety and putting out the deac's etc, not much sleep that night, in and out of bed like a jack in a box, no need to call him at 5am up and ready to go, on the pond at 6.20 and there were wings whistling all round us, was pretty dark and raining at the critical time, he lined up a couple but too dark to shoot safely, took 5min for enough light and a hapless parrie flew straight at him, and from all of 10m his first shot blasted the morning
One happy chappie, not much else happened , excitement got the better of him and his shooting went a bit wayward.
As expected his attention span drifted off, the German lady kept his spirits up
they are great mates.
By 11 he was wilting so he went off home for a spell, next day he was raring to go again, but quackers were not playing ball, jump shot a couple of ponds then round a patch of bush, and turkeys, want to have a go at those, ok stalk em, talk about entertaining, a fine rendition of Hiawatha sneaking from gorse bush to gorse bush and the mighty 410 3inch magnum spoke, well bugger me this was the result
2 with one shot big smiles again, he's hooked for life, can't see us leaving him behind now, not bad for a 9yr old.
Cheers
