Right guys,

We have tried to get these off the ground before with very limited success but here is hoping this one works as its a bout time we had a decent get together.

So am proposing a fairly casual comp - details as per below.

Updated details

Date: Sunday 23rd May 2010
Time: 0.01am to whenever you need to leave to make the measure-in
Fishing area: Wherever you like just as long as you can make the measure-in location on time
Measure-in details: 3.30pm Orewa Primary - 86 Maire Rd (Turn off Grand Drive by the Caltex)
Species: Open so bring to the 'measure in' whatever ya like BUT remember only bring back stuff you are planning to eat.

Other rules:
 - Landbased fishing only (but can access by boat / yak etc)
 - Line caught fish only ie no nets / spears / dynamite LOL
 - Entry is free and therefore no prizes other than bragging rights. Bragging rights goes for longest of each species weighed in.
 - Measure-in whatever fish you want but please people no waste - don't weigh it unless its gonna be eaten.
 - There will be no rain / bad weather date unless its exteme, ie a safety issue - given you can fish anywhere ie east or west coast, you should be able to find somewhere to tuck out of the weather.
 - Feel free to take photos of any notable catch and release efforts

Was initially gonna make this comp traditional walk in only but this will cut down the number of fishos and since there are no prizes up for grabs, am hoping there is not too much debate in this area. So as long as you are fishing off terra firma then its all ok - get there whichever way you like.

Cheers
JK

I'd update the website, but I don't want to piss off the webmaster that hasn't touched it yet.

You should've just read your newsletter, you'll see that I ****ed up so many things in it including that date by putting TWO club fish's on the same date.

The school grounds probably wouldn't be a bad idea. It's big enough for a a lead flicking comp while the BBQ cooks, enough parking at the top or bottom if we're allowed and close to the offies for those who want a couple of legal drinks if driving and lots for those who aren't LOL

As for weighin, your offer of the school uo orewa sounds good Barry as long as those south of the bridge dont mind the travel.

I should be able to make this and by then should have the 'Moon boot' removed :-)

I might ask to tag along with someone though as I'm not sure how steady I'll be on the rocks at this point - will probably need some physio when I get the boot removed (10 days).

I always clean out my fish before i leave to head home  will the fish just be judged on weight alone or would a physically bigger fish be taken into account?

On some fish's i,ve been on they have allowed the cleaning of fish but those people have had then to bring  that along in a plastic bag to be wieghed with there fish ,just a thought .Me i clean them at home .and dispose of later.

So the weigh-in's just for bragging rights?
If the main aim is to get people together to meet up & eat ya catch, then I'd have thought that not cleaning them at the school would have been preferable & bragging rights should go by length... just my .02c, not sure if I can make it out yet (for this or the Westcoaster) Smile

Wouldnt mind being part of this - esp if someone is going to Ta Pora, Kaipara with a 4wd?

Re the weigh in - why not make it length of each eligible species. That way you can gill and gutt fish without affecting the "weigh" in and enjoy eating the fish afterwards.
For a fun event keep it simple.

Posted By: xsspeed
Date Posted: 11 May 2010 at 3:56pm
And by tapora do you mean heading to the island? That'd be good fun, haven't been there for years!

Posted By: JK
Date Posted: 11 May 2010 at 8:24pm
Yep it will be a 'measure in' rather than a 'weigh in' so cleaned fish are all fine.

Species is open so bring to the 'measure in' whatever ya like BUT remember only bring back stuff you are planning to eat. I expect then that we could see the usual fare - ie snapper, KY, kingfish, dory, trevs, gurnard etc but if you like to eat eels, rays or rock cod then feel free to bring one along to 'measure in' ....just dont invite me around for dinner!  Longest fish of each species measured in takes bragging rights.

Measure in location is confirmed as Orewa Primary (cheers Bas) but I'll put up the finer details back in the first post over the next day or so.

Change of plan.  Have decided to go up and stay with my sister at army bay and fish somewhere around there so I get more time fishing and less time travelling.  Having only fished the NS once with limited sucess, anyone able to flick me a PM of a good spot or does someone want a buddy to tag along that lives up that way?

Lol that's a fair bit of moving, but yeah I don't really trust the long-rangers til about 3 days out, they tend to become more reliable then.
