Hi Ian
Gurrocks down Patiki Rd have a nice selection of poppers at moment, as well as heavy duty assist hooks, etc. Not sure if you've seen them, I think the popper brand is River Sea. But they look the business and well made. Also have some great looking stick baits and big minnows which may be handy where you're going. Main thing is not to run out of good lures....like we almost did with lumos at Tuts this year.
Best regards Shane

Thanks Shane I have been to Gurrock's and brought some of those you refer to , and I have just ordered 14 poppers and stick baits from overseas, got some fisherman FFCLabo and seven sea that puts me to about 35 poppers, 50 rapala and Mann's, and 25 jigs, me thinks that's will be enough Ps good lunch the other day would you be interested in coming home one lunch time and check out the lures etc, 1 klm from work

Bloomin heck! 35 poppers! Mate, how many do you plan to lose, or are you gonna start retailing them over there! For a 2 week trip, hell I'd say 6 poppers would be adequate, I seldom would lose more than...well, 3 max I guess, in a 3 week trip to the solomons, and i popper there every day. You will indeed be a well stocked angler! :-) As for 50 rapalas style lures.... ay caramba! :-) I take it you are not planning on using any wire traces? :-) I guess you have probably gone and got back already.. how did you go? Colours seem not to be quite so important as silouette when poppering, although I always like to have a mix of blues and greens with flashes of red too, but that is just personal pref, purple/black can be a good colour too. The best poppers at gourocks are the Yo-zuri surface bull GT poppers. re-rig the split rings and trebles with owner hooks and rings, they are a superb lure, my number one go-to popper. After that, halco makes some nice, relatively cheap, poppers that do the job well enough as well.

.... oooh, I don't think that is more than I have.... just more than would be needed. I would hate to think just how many lures of all sorts I have around the place. Pretty much every flat surface at the beach, here at home and up the sollies is covered with either the lure, or at least the dust-silouette of where one used to be :-) TAS afflicts us all I am sure. :-) ...these are just the lures I had on hand on the boat in the Sollies last trip after they had been washed... not shown are the dozens still hanging up in Joes tackle shed, the box or two more i sent up recently in that container, and all the ones still here at home for emergency use for short notice overseas trips! :-) I think I got TAS bad.....

Ah, well that you see is where the power of the almighty dollar comes in! I leave a big tip for the boatman so that the day after I leave, he has to sit down, untangle all the damn traces, wash everything and lay it all out to dry...as above. Soundsvery lazy, but it is so damn hot up there, after I untangle about the second trace snarl, the sweat is dripping everywhere and I lose my patience... locals handle the heat WAY better! :-). All that was done while I was sitting back in Matamata, wondering why the hell I left the sollies! There are a ton of SPs, marlin lures, bibbed lures and more poppers that you don't see there, as well as....ummm.. probably about 15 various spin-sets from poppers to light spin, trolling and bottom fishing sets that live up there as well :-)

yeah I noticed that at the end, it was the process which interested me and how relatively simple he made it look.
Something to play with over winter perhaps, although not sure where to start looking for the resins / silicon etc

Hehe... for a week long GT popping long trip I would normally carry 30-50 poppers... a range for all ocean conditions (chuggers, stickbaits, pencils) - as well accepting that you will lose a lot. I once lost 19 poppers on a single trip in East Nusa Tengarra, Indonesia, mostly to smart GTs diving to the reef and slicing my braid.

Wannabe.. how did your trip go and which poppers worked for you?
