price above is for chater only, can arrange bait at approx $25 per person to cover a full day of mad action and whatever travel arrangments are made. i can take 3 extra people in my ute departing from Tuakau at a cost of around $25 per person to cover diesel only, I will make up the shortfall which would make my diesel share around $40 bucks + rucs etc, doesnt bother me. just need bums on seats and on boats.

What time will you have to leave to get down b4 seven AM? We could arrange to meet somewhere close by maybe??????? you guys all sound like a bunch of hardcase hairys, im looking 4ward to that trip too now..... Dont worry about burley, i supply it as part of the trip anyway. pillies and squid seem to be the terminal bait around here and raw mussels if you be bothered opening them. i do have rods you can hire... and after reading some of the recent threads on this fourm i promice they have all been serviced and are in good working order ha ha. make sure you have good heavy tackle,(anything less than 15kg mainline is surely gonna end up with a breakoff) remember we fish around mussel farms so you cant let the big ones run to far before they find a line anchor warp. see you then..... So is the plan to nail a few snapper by the barges in the morning, then chase kingis after that? Or do you just stay near the barges and take kingis as a bycatch? Haven't had a lot of luck landing kings near the farms, they know where the ropes are aye!
|
Posted By: cowboy
Date Posted: 13 Mar 2010 at 4:52am
you guys are looking at a sat so doubt there will be any barges harvesting, but we will be fishing recently harvested lines, if the kingies are still around then, they turn up in the burley trail. they are usually just hanging around the floats etc. Soft baits work ok, but most people end up going back to the good old pillies etc, (the hookup rate seems to be faster.) as far as 15kg line goes, its just a matter of stopping the bigger fish from finding the ropes once your hooked up.

Nice one team. Hopefully Dale & I will be out there this weekend with some Air NZ crowd, skull dragging, & will have to throw some softies for sure. Just wanted to go for a jack nosey really with the coro cowboy, because never been on a charter out there. There are 2 wharves there, the 1st one will be the big mussel barge wharf called deadmans, keep going around the corner & you will see the 2nd wharf which is called Hannifords, this is where we are leaving from so I think yours should be the same. Better put a report up after we go, seen as I have spoken, DAMN

Thats a charter right there folks, I'm sure Rock fish & ropo were keen, & you never know what the fozzies will do plus a couple more pop up, so its only the decision of a half or full day. I like the half cause then you get home to tidy up in the arvo IMHO. but will go for anything.

Nah your not being pushy speed, just sorting yourself which is normal. I have sent this PM to several people that have asked, but wednesday the 14th is cut off time, so no farting around here ladies & gentlemen, the trip will go ahead regardless of the outcome on here, oh yeah seth is out, Monty
As you may have seen on the post he had cancelled it, even after I jumped on the post earlier to help salvage it for you all by telling him to hand it over to someone else, but it still got cancelled. When Cowboy posted that he would still like to take a FNET team for half a day, & no one had spoken up for nearly a day & a half SO I made the decision as stated in the post for half a day, seeing I was taken the job of lead. When I spoke to Cowboy at lunchtime he was still fending off the other team wanting that day, & he was more than happy to get a committment. My missus Dale (whom quite a few on the site know personally) & I are looking forward to it as well, because we have been out with him once before with some air nz people, but never knew he was an fnet member, so now I just want us to go for good karma instead of others getting it, because he has stated on the post he would like to meet more members & like I said on the post, if no one else wants to come from the site, I can rally up the whanau because I have a morning charter booked now that belongs to me, & that is quite hard to do on boats like these. xsspeed has asked about livebaiting for kingfish etc, which I think may be a good option for a hour or so, but I will get Coro to give me a run down on what we can expect from that angle, & then let everyone know next week to give a day or so before committing as I have stated on the post, but I think his main stay is to hit the farms. Dale & I are not meat hunters if you know us, we are there for the enjoyment of the day & usually stop taking fish when we get to about 8 out of our allowed 18 (which quite a few skippers have found out about)

Update Sat 10th
We have,
1. baitcatcher,
2. snapazapa,
3. Tele29,
4. Dale,
5. Monty,
6. da nephew or neice ( they dont have a choice I just tell them they are comin, no drinking with their mates the night before )
7. fozzie
8. Mrs fozzie
9 & 10
2 x pencilled but not confirmed yet.
or
Rock Fish ??
ropo101 ??
Spoke with Cowboy tonight & he said we wont be targeting kingfish specifically because of the vastness & only half a day charter, but take your kingy gear because they turn up at the farms & you can have a crack unexpectedly. For directions have a look on Google Earth & you can see Hannifords Wharf (little one) around the corner to the left from Deadmans (mussle barge coromandel) at Te Kouma.

Really looking forward to this trip. What kind of rigs and baits were working well Jermish? Trying to decide which rods to bring! |
I was just straylining back into burley trail, used my softbait setup, softbaits weren't working though. As for baits they seemed to take anything, pillies, squid, mussels, bonito, although found the squid to be slightly better (6 fish caught on the same piece of squid) any yellowtail caught is worth a try to drop down as 2 good size JD's were also caught. Bite came on as current picked up. Don't worry Chris will put you onto them, he's one of the best charters I've been on, for service, and results. (now you'll be under pressure chris, lol)

Yep were full its all go
We just take droppers & up to 16oz sinkers for a big tide day I think, no need to muck around here. The last lot that we went with a guy took softies & flicked them out on an 1oz jighead, he got a couple here & there.
PM sent Rex to wots up with us.

Has anyone who is coming on the charter got a rod I can borrow for the day? I want to test out my new surf reel but I only have overhead boat rods and it's an eggbeater. Needs to be suitable for straylining and rated to 10-15kg. Would be much appreciated and if you like english-style ales I will slip you a couple of bottles of home brew for your trouble. Cheers!

Hey Rex, I got ahold of Pat & booked 7 spots for us already on sat night with jermish, so that makes 8 of us staying there, I sent you a PM.
I was gonna drive down early to but you can't beat this, so baitcatcher, snappa & tele, why dont you phone her up to see if you can fit, I dont know how many beds she has left though after us. Make sure you tell her you are extra to the ones Monty booked, & like jermish said its a nice bed & short drive
To save me ringiing again coz I didnt ask!! hey Jermish do we need to take a sleeping bag & pillow ??

Up to you but the beds do have linen etc on them, just need to take change of clothes, towels are supplied as well. And anything you want to cook on the bbq if your that way inclined. And if your real lucky pat may have some of her famous mussel fritters.
