If you mean the same thing that Moocha has put a link up to... Due to the lack of width between neighbouring fences at my place to be able to swing the trailer in to its space using the Prado, I certainly need something like this to control my trailer on the part of our driveway with the gradient. With one person trying to control the boat and trailer (750kg+), it does as it pleases.
Landlord won't see the funny side if it goes through the front of his house!

Go back to energy drinks rather than coke as coke has twice the sugar content as redbull or v... were taking the normal cans though, not the big arse ones Unless you have something against the other good stuff in energy drinks

Try the eezi-mover jockey wheel with a ratchet handle that moved the wheel. It will handle moderate grade driveway single handed. From memory they retail around $250

I looked at making one out of an old rotary hoe a while back as we have a steep short ramp to get up, but in the end I sunk a removeable post into the driveway and mounted a hand winch to it.
The winch works for a straight pull but wouldn't be so good if you need to turn corners

You could copy something like this design... Probably not much use if there's a gradient though.

Trojan do one that looks quite sturdy. I think you can get from repco or direct. I got one from Super Cheap but not as sturdy as the Trojan one.

Have you thought about putting a tow bar with a removable hitch on the front of the Prado? I did, and now I can get the boat into the yard easily and park it in a very tight space with no hassles.

Just heard back from Trojan;
"with regard to whether the EZI SHIFTA jockey wheel will operate on a slight gradient, we would like to advise that provided that there is sufficient traction between the terrain and the tire on the wheel they will handle reasonable gradients. Care must be taken if the direction of travel is downhill as the trailer will want to run ahead of the operator."
Or drag the operator in my case
Been thinking of doing that Tinky

Built it myself Simon. Welded it onto the existing two tow points that bolt to the front of the vehicle. If you want you can come around and have a look at mine. Works a treat and is very easy to move a trailer around with it.

I think I'll have to arrange a time to come and have a look Tinky . I'll be in touch.
I just found this about airbags which may be of interest to others...
"Air bag sensors which i am familliar with are used in Ford products & i asume are simmilar to other vehicles. Are a gold plated steel ball held in place by a magnet inside a cage all this is in a sealed box generaly mounted on firewall or behind bumperbar area. It is only sensitive to deceleration G forces, for an air bag to go off 2 sensors have to be activated at the same time. To activate sensor the vehicle must be doing more than 25Kmh & there must be a change of 3Kmh in deceleration. This is very condenced version of operation, As a Ford mechanic this was a course i had to study & there is a lot in air bag operation & safe handling as they are clased as explosive device."

North SHore towbars fitted a front towbar on my wagon. Does not interfer with airbags. Very tidy job and it has been a life saver getting my boat up a tight and hilly driveway.
I did not mention it before because you were asking about a jockey wheel setup.
I think it cost me around $450 two years ago.

Hi allHelp is on the way!! I am busy building a caravan motor mover that utilizes a clamp-on motorized jockey wheel and overcomes all the problems usually associated with this design. Wide non-slip tyre, powerful motor & gearbox, laser cut stainless steel brackets, swing away bracket so it stays on the caravan while touring, etc. As is usually the case necessity is the mother of invention - I built one as I am getting older and finding it a huge problem moving my caravan and coupling it up. I figured others must be having the same problems. Planning to market it by December or early January Watch this space!

Please DO NOT use a 3 wheeler or a quad on any decent gradients especialy when trying to push or pull nearly a ton unbraked around a corner . Ive used them enough to know thats just asking for serious trouble. Quads are very unstable sideways and are not designed to be used on hills or slopes like most kiwis use them,(in a normal car the centre of gravity is about seat level,on a quad the centre of gravity is at the bottom third of the engine and then you are sitting well above that on the "Roof" of the quad which makes for a very unsafe vehicle) and 3 wheelers are even worse. They are not quite as safe as a lot of people think.
Sorry for the lecture but have seen more than a few accidents with them.

Not sure if it helps.
I fitted a tow bar to the front of my wagon. It gives much better turning control and the benefit of good view of boat and trailer.
Cost about $475 3 years ago North Shore Towbars. The only thing you need to check is that it does'nt interfer with frontal impact stuff.
towbar slides off when not used.

Another option is to dyna bolt 2 lines of 4 by 2's to make a guide for the trailer wheels to follow with a backstop at the end so the boat can go no further.then the boat can only go where its directed to and cant run away on you.

Sorted my issues with a front mounted towbar. North Shore Towbars sorted me out with a removable tongue unit.
Absolute godsend for maneuvering the boat around my yard. Without it, I wouldn't be able to get my boat into the driveway due to the neighbour's using their lawn for parking nowadays.
Cost wasn't far off what Breakaway paid for his.
