Quick trip to whiti in the weekend, 3 of us shot out Sunday morning and fished around Ohinau(sp), biggest snapper caught on a softbait was 13lb, we only managed a dozen or so mostly pannies and by the time the sun was up the bite was over.
Time to wear ourselves out jigging for kingis. We tried most of the nearby pins and found the mother load of Kingis to attack our jigs, the trouble was all were rats! bugger. Finally gave up when our knuckles were dragging on the deck.

Oh well back again next weekend and hopefully with a bit of the inside oil from the man on the spot (thanks T) we might crack double figures on a kingi if we are lucky.

Sounded like the game fishing was going off on the vhf and also listened to the rescue by Mahiman.

Great weather, roll on next weekend.

Can't complain with a 13lb snapper :)
If you're after Kingies you should head out to the Black Rocks..... Not sure how they go on a jig, but I get them spearing there a lot.
