I can't wait to pick up the PE7 in about a week or two.  I love the other smaller models.

Hi Chopstick or ChrisW, is there any chance of posting up a complete set of the JM reels from smallest (JM PE3 is that the smallest) to the big fella PE8 with specs.

or alternatively a link I could have a look at or similar.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Whats the gear ratio on the pe-7 ?

bush billy,

It's 4:1 - just how we like them. Smile

funny you should say that Choppy - I know of plenty of 4:1 owners that are or have UPGRADED to faster ratio reels!.....Evil Smile...although I might just have to have a closer look at the PE 7 - that one pictured would look real purty on my Blue-Rose 420!

Don't know why they would want to make it harder to fight a good fish by using a higher gear ratio - but each to their own Kezza.

ya gotta hook the good fish before you can wind it in - those previous 4:1 owners/users I mentioned above have apparently enjoyed an increase in bites since going faster....believe it or not.....anyhoo mate.....was intended as tongue in cheek and didn't really want to start anything.....nice looking reels!

Sometimes, slowing down gets more strikes too; especially with sliders.

The JM boys that design these reels know what they're doing and they know how to make a reel look good too as well as perform.

You do need a nice shiney blue JM PE7 to match the excellent Blue-Rose 420 Kezza.Tongue

Jon,

775g for the OJ 5000P and 760g for the OJ 4000P. Actually the pics aren't the best. The PE7 and PE8 are both the same diameter; roughly the same as the Accurate 665.

Is the arm handle longer on the PE7 compared to the PE5?  Also is the t-bar handle larger?  If so I may be pulling off a PE5 setup to go on the PE7.  Not a fan of too long a arm handle or big t-handle!!

Posted By: chopsticks
Date Posted: 11 Feb 2010 at 3:43pm
The arm is 1 cm longer on the JM PE7 and PE8 than the JM PE5 and PE6 models. The T-Bar handle itself is also 1 cm longer and 1.3 mm thicker at the widest point, on the JM PE7 and JM PE8 reels.

Chopsticks thanks for the info.  Tinky I'll be keeping my PE5.  I want to sell the PE7 handle and put on my PE5 handle setup. THen buy a PE4 handle setup and put it on the PE5 if all that makes sense.  I want to pick the speed up a hair.
Tuna run at us at times and turning those long arms can kill you when this happens.  I like the ratios just not the arm lengths.

I tend to agree with you a bit...I find it easier to get a good rhythm with my ocea jigger 5000 than my pe4 reel.....The handle does seem a bit long.Wink

I notice on the JM website that they have a limited edition PE reel that has a mute docking gear design (the sound is the only thing I don't like about my PE4). I would be interested in whether existing reels like mine could be modified to achieve the same result i.e. if one could purchase the mute docking system to replace the existing one.

me too broWink seems like a few people feel the same about this and there could be demand for it...It just depends on how simple it is to do,i guess.

Picked up the PE7 yesterday and the reel seems great.  I'll be testing it out soon on bluefin tuna when the carolina weather breaks.  Today I will try to switch around handles and what not to see if works.
Does anyone know if they make a shaft kit to put on the round knob instead of using the t-bar knob?
Looking forward to putting on a whippin on some fish with this reel.  It seems like a true power house.  It was amazing this last season the size fish that were landed on the smaller PE4 and PE5 reels.

Here is the reply from pony liu from jigging  master=
Mute docking is only for limited edtion, if you want your reel to be mute, please ask the dealer to import for you.  it is not easy to modify a standard docking to mute docking, need accurate mechanical workshop to do that.

I helped my buddy spool up his PE 7 and it only took 330 meters of Diawa PE 8 boat braid, i guess diawa's pe braid is a little thick. It sure is a nice reel, i plan on having one soon if his holds up to my expectations.

You must mean the YGK Ultra Jigman PE8 as the YGK Jigman PE8 only comes in 300m spools.

The line has to be wound on as tight as you can with some electrical tape or mono on the spool arbor. Interesting, that it says 400m on the box, although in terms of depth not many people would be jigging past 200/300m anyway.
