Theres a new craze in fishing that is hitting the US Softbait market. UV Reflective paint is being used on Jig heads and in softplastics. It was the buzzword at last years Icast fishing Show.I have hummed and haaed whether to add it to our CYCLOPS softbait rig. But after trying it out I was convinced it did make a difference to my catch rate while charter fishing and it was worth the extra expense to create a rig that has a point of difference from other deep water rigs.
I purchased the best quality UV reflective sealer coat I could find from the USA which is called UV Blast.I shipped it to the factory that makes the Cyclops heads and it is now applied to all Cyclops rigs. UV blast is NOT glow in the dark paint it actually reflects the suns UV rays to make your rig more visible to fish.
To try and stay ahead and lead the way with Deepwater softbait rigs, UV Blast is now applied to all Cyclops Rigs. Check them out at your local tackle store. I have also written an article in the NZ Fishing news this month about what I have found out about UV Light and fish. The new CYCLOPS has new packaging as you can see by the picture below. UV Blast will give you an extra advantage over rigs without UV reflective paint.

Like MadMatt says, there is a similar product to Cyclops on the market. Two 2oz rigs in a pack for around $14. I think they've even got them in 1/2oz too. Nearly bought some thinking they were Cyclops, but on closer inspection they looked cheap and nasty.
------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck.

they are a direct copy of the cyclops, same looking packet, same colour, same eyeball thingie, exactly the same, except under a different name and cheaper, surely that must breach some copyright law?

Need the FAT BOY on them

Of2fish the hooks on there now are the new FATBOYS that have been designed by myself and a few forum members. They are manufactured in the USA. So now the hooks are from the USA, the split rings are from Auckland and the heads are from China. Dirty Oars uncle assembles them here in Auckland for us now, so we can assemble to order.
I designed a new hook for a few reasons.
1. The hook eye: I wanted an enlarged hook eye that will accomadate a decent split ring. I increased the hook eye so a decent split ring could swing freely through the thickest part of the ring. 2. Increase the barb size: I increased the barb slightly as a cyclops swinging on a hooked fish can come out with fishermen who let the line go slack, this lessens the chance of this. 3.Point sharpness, I was having trouble with the old hooks going blunt, the new fatboys hook stays sharper longer. 4. The angle of the gape. I opened the angle up by 11 degrees which lifts the point away from the bait. The old hooks point angled in towards the bait, the only reason for this is fishing weedless style for bass in heavy cover. The new ones angle up away from the bait which has increased hook up rates. I tested the hooks extensively on Eagle Magic for about 15 corporate softbait charters fishing approx 8 anglers for 6 hours per day which equates to 720 testing hours where I could fish the old hook and new hook side by side. I was only going to change if the testing proved positive. The results were good with a better hook up rate and less dropped fish. I also tested the UV sealer coating at the same way, this also proved positive which is why I went to the added expense of shipping paint from the USA to China to add the UV sealer coat. The next hooks will be out in about 10 months they will be the same style with quite a special point on them. I have not had any hooks break. When I investigated on where to get hooks made I was told these stats
Hooks made in China generally have around 1500 faulty hooks per 10,000 Hooks made in Korea have about 100 faulty ones per 10,000 Hooks made in US or Japan have about 20 per 10,000 that are faulty.
So its impossible to manufacture with zero faulty hooks if anyone ever has one break I will gladly replace it, and send you an extra Cyclops for your trouble Hope this answers your question

This is true not happy about it but as Kezza says Lawyers are the winners in this field. I have looked at the copies. Be wary of these copies as.
The hardly glow at all put then in the dark and you will see what i mean The paint falls off The hook binds on the split ring The hook is very fine gauge and bendy They have no UV sealer coat
As with most copied products there usually made cheaper by taking shortcuts in manufacture to produce poorer quality products.

The hooks arent breaking just find them a bit fat, when using small baits they tear ..all good tho its not hard to throw a captains hook on them for the 5 inch baits

My suggestion for improvement is simple:
1) I would try and find a solution to eliminate the split rings there
2) I would redesign the hooks so they have a cork remover type wire spiral ( twist lock ) which is proven to be one of the best ways to keep the softbait in place - most of the problems I had with the cyclops are because the softbait easily slips out of the hook
Everything else is sweet as in my opinion

We do have a few faulty heads coming through, the flaws are in the finish of the paint some have dings in them I would say 1-2 per 100. We assemble the Cyclops in New Zealand by hand which allows us to filter out any heads we are not happy with.

If some decide to start that again Moo they will quickly find they are having trouble logging on. Same goes for deliberate mischievous posts in here.
