Just got back from the club, some very happy faces down thier great weather and sea conditions. Here are the fish that have been caught over the last couple of days.
25th Jan
S/Marlin Joe stuwart (Victoria) est 110 kg Lure LUMO
Blue Marlin Anthony Cox (Tikeba) T/R est 200kg
26th Jan
S/B Spearfish Tim Burke (Allison) 11.0 kg
S/Marlin Owen mcKay (Teaser) 91 kg
27th Jan
S/Marlin T/R Nick Ravich (SoSa)
S/Marlin Shane Tawssen (No Limits) 97 kg
S/Marlin Ian Wakeman ( Zambhala) to be weighed
S/Marlin Ian Wakeman (Zambhala ) T/R Est 100 kg ?
S/Marlin Gus lawrie ( Lady Shandler ) 127.4 kg
Thier is aleast another S/Marlin coming into TUTS to-night as a C/W
Sounds like the back of the pinnacles is going off at the moment most of these fish were caught in this area. Just about every boat out thier had some sort of action out thier. That fish of Gus lawrie was spewing out black ink ( wonder what it had been eating) SQUID.
Seems as though black and purple lures and Lumos are flavor of the week . Will update when i can

Well fella's I've just got back from 2 days fishing the knights!!
We had 3 strikes today 2 stripies and 1 blue!! unfortunatly we had a very testing day and suffered from 3 major mistakes costing us the fish
Well done to NO LIMITS they hooked up next to us and landed a good fish.
The action was hot from north of the knights 150m to the trench and east of the sugar loaf 140-180m!! several boats had multiple strikes and 1 mahimahi was caught to.
Hopefully we get one next time

Our blue took a blue and silver joy yee evil lure on the sort rigger in 144m directly east of north reef and it gave us a hell of a fight with awesome tail walks!!

Demon,
We didnt see the blue take the lure, but it started tail walking very close to the boat and jump right out several times and then charged us!!! We could clearly see it was a blue, probably around 190-220kg a nice one!
On its last charge we couldnt keep the line tight and it spat the hook

Was ridiculously hard!!! I fished saturday and sunday and today -or rather drove boat around aimlessly in a seemingly empty ocean. Other half got grumpy because we didn't get a strike or win the trip to Vanuatu in contest -possibly the skipper's fault. I saw 1 dolphin and one school of frightened saury in 3 days. I went south, I went north, I went wide ,I went close. Closest we got was when Cara J hooked a nice 108kg stripe just ahead of us yesterday morning, and today a boat got a double not far from us. Only consolation was lots of other boats seemed to suffer same fate. As John Going said to me last night -"the fish seemed to be no where in particular".
The other John on Westcoaster found a stray one yesterday wide of ocean beach - and Julie his wife landed the stripee round 90kg - but John is a great fisherman -so may be when he says "you have to be lucky" he's only partly right.
Also met Greg1 from Whangerei -who got a small spearfish yesterday. He recognised my boat name of this Site -which was pretty cool - as was his boat. Always great atmoshpere at Tuts and we got a free concert last night with some classic NZ music from Dave Dobyn, Bik Runga and Tim Finn.
Oh well -that is how it goes - still keen to get out there again and must be saved up some luck in last 3 days and at least weather was quite good -which is always nice when your spending most of it on a 5 meter stabi.

Saw you out there Shaneg. I was in the maroon tinnie with the white hard top. Hard going as you say. Had a marlin pinched from out under our nose by someone else, but then thats fishin I suppose. We at least managed a few albies, but that was not what we were after. Had quite a few waves over the bow on Saturday, but calmed down on Sunday and a lot better today. Unfortunately had to cut today short due to an oil warning on the engine? Level was still half full so not quite sure as to why I got it. Rather be safe than sorry.
Enjoyed the freebe show as well. Sat with a beer in the hand over a barbie listening to it from across the bay.

Myself and fellow fishing.netter JLN hit the water at Tutukaka at 06:00 this morning and pulled out at 18:00 hrs this evening. Absolutely pristine conditions today. We shot out to 80m mark inside the Pinacles near where JLN and his crew of fair maidens caught their marlin on Saturday cruised out to the 140 meter mark picking up albies and skippies as we went come across a big work up of ganetts dolphins everywhere but no stickfaces swung left and headed for the Kumera patch just before we got there Viper hooked up and landed a marlin approximately 500 meters away from us other boats had fish in the gear in the vicinity while they played it also Voi had fish in the gear at the Kumera Patch and Vicky Wright on her dads boat Tuturangi tagged a Blue Marlin estimated at 150kgs at about 225M behind the Pinacles . All in all a very enjoyable day but fish few and far between.

hey at least you guys are out on the water giving it a crack. We have had a couple of weeks off after quite a few hard worked days at the end of january. And i wont lie, i was very worried this weekend as i headed to the sevens in wellington that the marlin would start to fire this weekend as they did last year at this exact time. But i guess their a bit later then. Will be up there again over the next few weeks. Cant wait. Surely they will start to come in more numbers soon??? well lets hope so.
And i guess i cant complain as the sevens was one hell of a weekend!!
But bring on the marlin..

I was South end again all day yesterday (home at 21:15). Less bait about than on Sunday, weather was purrrrrrrrrrfict. Fish still not there. 1x Mahimahi 7.5kg was a first for me so I'm a happy chappy. Bloody cool watching the school of at least 5 greyhounding from Port into the lures and trying to get them all. Little buggers have no fare and think they can eat Zuka's etc. The one that stuck was on a Pakula Blue Angel. Fawl hooked in the skull. Great sport for their size and I believe top eating!

Nice one Krow, I was out of cell range for most of the last few days and I think I missed a call from you.
I worked the back of the knights Monday - 160 - 180m and there was lots of bait at 30m and im picking they were Albies. yesterday I worked 147 - 180m off home point and once again there were good bait schools and Skippies were picked up every 1/3 hours or so. Lots of whales and heaps of big Manta Rays and Sunfish.
The word I have is that th good water is being carried back out for a bit which maybe is a reaction to the big mass of good water coming in through Whangaroa and into the B.O.I. From there I have been advised that we should expect to see this then once again poke its way back into Toots and as such some good fishing again.
Time will tell, but it is certainly a little quiet up there at present hence me coming back early. Subject to weather I may pop back up beginning of next week. Ill be up over the weekend anyway fixing bits and pieces. Amazing how long the list of things to do gets once you actually start spending some time on board ! ! !

Definitely female. The males look like they've swum into a brick wall and have a flat face.
They like MacSkippy lures too as well as a small livie. |

Nice to catch up Wayne, bloody hot day down there, but, work done and back in Auckland now
Went and caught up with Steve the local smoker on my way home. 99% of fish have been full to the brim with Squid and a number had been gorging so hard he was amazed they had not split open all by themselves
A few, and, only a few had Rays Bream and a coupld of Skippies !.

Mullet in stomach can be quite common on west coast -theory is marlin come in very close at night and hunt mullet. John who has "Westcoaster" told me few years ago that when fishing was hot off Hokianga (14 shots in an afternoon) - the marlin had mullet in them. Mullet in stomach probably means fish in close. Another oldtimer Rex off Bluefin told me a grey mullet dropped dead into marlin schoolling on a ball of yellwtail or kohes was as good as putting a livie of same in. They obviously like em.

Yeah good one Shane, my mate who told me that fish around the Ahipara area and they get marlin in as close as 50 metres! and those buggers have also scored one in a 12 foot tinny
So yes I certainly believe they come in real close and feed on mullet, perhaps at night, etc
