I tried on an Aqualung Falco mask in OH the other day and was quite impressed. I've been using a fairly standard WB mask for a couple years but I've been annoyed recently by the lack of peripheral vision. The Falco has plenty and is comfy but it does this by having bent lenses at the corners, wrap-around sort of, which presumably causes distortion in that part of the lens... problem or no?

Anyone have recommendations regarding masks with huge vision?

Cheers, Matt

I was looking at the cressi range recently. I have wb mask that cost $70 and has done me for 4 years plus. Great value then but now its time to upgrade . I found the cressi range had far superior vision too. One of them was called the big eye that i liked but wondered about mask squeeze etc. It says internal volume is comparible to that of a traditional mask.  Any ideas?

I like the Lince - the worst thing in a mask is it leaking, and the Lince seems to have a good seal, as well as good vision

The Matrix is a bigger version of the Lince and has a better field of vision.

I have a Lince but when it is stuffed I will be buying a Matrix and putting up with a bit more nasal exhalation

The big eye was cool how vision was huge but it didnt fit well. The lince was to much like what i have got though i wanted to upgade and try something different. Well i brought the matrix today. I rekon midway between the two others in vision and fits great. Well we will see this weekend all changes when you add a snorkal to the equation.

Just read something interesting in a old Dive magazine there is a tribe(the Moken tribe) that were found to have twice the underwater resolving power when compared to europeans  and apparently it is learned not inherited so start ya kids young and they'll never have to worry about buying a mask.

Funny seeing the single lens mask. Some of the Western Australian divers still use them. Not to mention the rubber gloves they wear.

sorry to hijackEmbarrassed, do you use the little clip, or under the strap?

It's what fits the best..... Don't let price or brand cloud your decision. One thing often not looked at is the strap clips. Get a mask with sturdy clips.

note for straps, IMHO get a mask that has straps connects to the rubber not the frame, you can then tighten as required without cutting off sinuses etc.

wrt high volume masks - I don't think it's something you need to worry about unless you're going very deep. Just need to remember to suck the air back out again on the ascent!

The Lince and Matrix are the same mask on different scales, it's unlikely that they'll both fit which is of course everything.  Forget the clip just tuck the snorkel under the mask strap.  It stops it from spinning around when you spit it out.

I got a wettie, can't remember the style, but theres like 12 different fits with different lenses etc.
I must've tried 5 or 6 before I got the right one.
Only $70 i think!

Thats the trick capt, try a few on, its amazing how you can be happy with a 'good' fit, then discover a 'great' fit!

true! i went to their shop last week, tried all of them and settled for the "bat". and got me a new snorkel too! my old one has a purge valve and it's a pain in the proverbial!!

You can buy the flashest mask in the world and it won't make a lick of difference if it leaks.  Purge snorkels are for fahgs.

i can see a gap near her forehead where light is coming through.

my two cents on mask was that my WB mask fits well but i found out once that a light smear of vaseline around seal just makes it that bit comfier, especially if you got a bit of 5 o'clock shadow.

^ Do you notice much better field of vison with the Matrix? I have only tried the Lince but am interested in a change to find a bit more comfort

I find if I move my head up and down and side to side I get a good field of view. My neck gets sore though

Ive got a Matrix and a Lince, I went back to my Lince for a dive and the field of view was horrible, like tunnel vision!  the silicone is thinner and softer on the matix and fits alittle better.  lince is now my back up mask.

not sure if its my face but both masks sometimes leak on the right hand side, not sure if its my snorkle, but it drives me mad!

Cheers Nick. I may try a Matrix next. I find the Lince leaks sometimes, but after I sit on the boat for a while in utter disgust and put it on again it doesn't leak for the rest of the day. Buggered if I know why.

Has anyone tried out the Matrix, Lince and the new Sporab mask? What do you think?

I've tried on Cressi Lince and the Matrix but bought the new Sporasub mask.  Loving the new Sporasub, best fitting mask I have ever owned.  I also have a Sporasub Samurai that I don't like!

In trying on masks before buying, I tried the Mares Liquid Skin (freedive one) felt awesome but not sure about the straps attaching to the silicon so didn't get it.  Anyone diving with it???
