Confirmed Game Fish Captures 1/12/09 – 30/6/10 inclusive
HERE WE GO AGAIN ! ! ! ! !! A new game fishing season is upon us and let's hope it will be another bumper season for us all. This thread will continue to run in the same format as last season and we'll all look forward to seeing the catches recorded as the season unfolds.
We have some additional categories this year including the new "T&R Cup" sponsored by Legend Lures which we hope will encourage more of us to Tag and Release more often. We also have included a Section for 1st Time Marlin Captures , a new section for Tuna other than YFT which finally get a look in and we also have a monthly best Video & Photographic section which will hopefully encourage more of us to post up some great video clips and photos that I'm sure will get snapped over the coming months .
New for this season will be the official http://www.fishing.net.nz - www.fishing.net.nz catch certificates which will be awarded to each posted qualifying game fish caught over the season, so if you are not a member of a NZBGFC Club then you can still have a momento of your catch hanging on your wall for years to come .
The ultimate prize once again will be the "ILEX TROPHY" awarded for what is considered the most meritorious catch or angling achievement of the season. The "Ilex Trophy" has been crafted and donated by renown Northland game fishing family of Ken & Zane Wright. The trophy features the bill of a 285KG Black Marlin caught in the vicinity of The Hole In The Rock in 2002/2003. This has been mounted on a specially selected piece of Totara and is simply one of the most outstanding trophies of its type around and one which we hope in the years to come will become one of the most recognisable game fishing trophies handed down each season.
Entering your catch
Submit your entry by posting on this thread including a photo if possible. NB:To qualify for Prizes, all catches must be supported by either a NZBGFC affiliated club weigh sheet, or photo at a certified weigh station if the catch is classed as a courtesy weigh, clearly showing the catch board and catch details ( tag card and photo of the fish with tag in place in the case of T & R). Qualifying fish will be transferred by the admin team to the http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=48079&title=2010-bradley-smokers-leader-board - 2010 Bradley Smokers Leader Board where there'll be an ongoing record of leaders in each category.
We want to see all your game fish caught over the season posted in this thread WITH PHOTOS !!! which is why we have included the best Photographic or Video prize awarded monthly and with a grand prize at the end of the season . Photos also serve as a great record of the seasons activities, accomplishments, trends and year end results .

Wetspot and others,
Are kingfish allowed to be put forward for the The "ILEX" Cup??
If so, I would like to nominate FarNorfOwnages Kingfish caught in December 09. It went 44kg and off the rocks so in the view of myself and many others, a very meritorious catch / acheivement (NZ LBG Record too). I can provide all further details if considered eligible.

Only two on board ray fought it for 2 1/2 hours and then did the leader as dave kept the boat running forward. gaff was sunk, and ray power home to his family with the girl in the boot. 1st place bill Fish.

Comments : Nationals T&R, this small fish had a few handfulls of longline and swivels etc in and around its mouth including a few big clumps of goose mussels (could be a new bait for them) we managed to cut the vast majority off, also looked to be a fresh scar on its left shoulder that could have been from a past tagging ... was this young fish caught 3 times already?

Just a question the date of the 30/06/2010 is the end of the game season officially is it ?
If so does int not rule out potentially the heaviest Tuna ? I mention this again as I did last season because the Blue fin season is just beginning pretty much down south and would be discounted on dates not species.

Or conversely does it mean the first BFT caught last winter( the start of the last season) , and posted in accordance with the rules, is the winner?
------------- "I love standing by the ocean and just knowing what its for"
As much as I would like to see this comp run within the normal bounds of the year to year dates of the game clubs the period of this comp is as follows "All pins and prizes are for fish caught during the period
1 Dec 09 – June 30 2010 inclusive " as such if a big bluefin comes in by tomorow midnight then it is eligible for the heaviest other tuna and also the "ILEX" Trophy.
Ill be posting up a full results and prizes board by the end of the week :) and I would say that after a bit of consultation by the committee members the ILEX trophy will be announced shortly thereafter

Best of all Jon (Tazzee) is leader for heaviest blue/black. Guess he doesn't have to go far to pick up his prize
