hey lads,
i'm not much of a fisher, mainly a diver.
I have a dead keen fisherman staying with me at the moment, he is from overseas and is keen to get a line wet.
I live up near hellensville and would like to take him somewhere to catch a couple fish. i have seen people fishing from shelly beach wharf. is this a good place? tide dependant?
is there anywhere up the coast that you can drop a line from the shore? i don't have a boat so shore based is where it is going to happen.
i have an old surf caster that i guess will need new line....
do i burley off the wharf with a couple burley bombs? pilchard? squid?
any help either by PM or here would be greatly appreciated.

Shelly bch wharf is best fished on the in coming tide over high and then the out going (2hrs each way) no burley needed use the ledger rig (sinker sand grab then two hooks 4-6/0s above ,cut baits like bonito and mullet work good there , fishing of the bch next to wharf (camping ground )works just as well same tides ,night fishing seems to work better of the wharf , at the end of the road ,north (south head rd) is mossie bay better fished over low using the same set up(tackel) except you can use pillies to better effect there.both places have strong currants . ------------- woman who say they are equal to men ,show lack of Ambition . |

when i bought my boat the guy said he cathes a few fish of the shelly beach wharf with handlines. never been there thow. |

| I've fished shelly beach wharf quite a bit the last few months and night works best 2 hours either side of high. Got some big gurnards 50-60CM and big KY about the same size. Heaps of people that go there also been catching the odd shark aswel. |

i went out there yesterday to give it a go. 1 x  20cm shark caught.
will go out next week to try it again.

Yep they have been absouloutely hammering huge snappers on the boat landbase has been complete opposite wouldnt touch it for the next week or so bro, If your the guy that PM'd me I'll take you out for a fish mate, just work it for a friday or saturday

We fish shelly beach every 3-4 months whilst i am up there bagging some fallow,we walk out to the end of the wharf,turn left and cast back towards the shore.That where i catch the most gurnard. Small cubed pieces Mullet or bonito on a 4/0 mutsu hook,the oilier the better.From early incoming tide and i always have a few rods out.Big baits or different baits get rays or other crap you dont want. I learnt all this from watching a *****. ------------- If you think you are too small to make a difference,try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent. |
