Looks the part alright but probably cost as much as a 2nd hand 4 wheel bike with a towball

Make one.  A spare motor and a bad attitude, shouldn't cost more than $200 or so in parts if you can't scrounge anything up.

A 12v winch motor would be ideal, cause they got reverse aw.  Would be a technical hitch with the standard petrol motors, you would have to get a reversing box of some sort.

F-n simple, got most of the gear lying around here by the look of it.  Even got a buggered 1-7/8 towball - VTNZ failed me for a rusty towball nut one day and I had to cut if off.  He crawled all over the truck for two hours, no joke - and finally failed me on the nut.  Never been back, the *******!

Bumping this because I have just moved house - drive has a tight corner plus a bit of a slope (not much, but hard work pushing uphill). Something powered would make it much much easier.

Any suggestoins? Don't know if I could make anything..... not really the tools nor the ability....

I remember seeing a stall at the Hutchwilco Boat show that had a product like this.

No idea of cost or anything though.

I was looking at this for my boat. Bit pricey but would do the trick.

Maybe fit a winch in the garage and hook up boat and winch in reverse with jockey wheel on....winches are quite cheap now from Repco, Supercheap etc.

Sounds like a similar issue I had at the last place I lived at. Getting a tow bar fitted to the front of my 4WD was the best thing I ever did. Piss easy manouevering the boat in and around tight spaces.

buy a little tractor same cost of those electric unproven wheelsbarrows and you dont have to charge it and you can dig the garden if required...

this one you could even use as a portable weight point for those moster fish... put the bucket up sorted Tongue

First day I got the boat and brought it home, I overheated the transmission reversing up the drive . Mind you it took about 8 attempts. Tongue

Next day I booked in for a front towbar and have never looked back. Getting the boat up the drive is so less stressful.

Looks like the toe hitch is quite high. this might be an issue if your boat is heavy and the jokey wheel wont wind up high enough.

Thanks all.
The front tow ball sounds like it might be the way...... Else spend a couple of $k :(

Igot shown a good trick for pushing around a tamdem axle trailer a few years back..
It may not solve ifish's problem as his boat is rather heavy.
If you wind the jockey wheel as high as it will go it will take most of the weight off the front axle and move it to the back axle of the trailer, then it is like pushing around a single axle trailer
you do need a good quality jockey wheel that is well mounted
TWL do  sell nz mzde ones with twin wheels and have good height capability
My boat was around 1900kg and when shown this it went from imposible to easy for two people.
This may be worth a try.

Great tip 2 Reel
Another way to move a single axle trailer is to rock it back. Chock one wheel, pull the front to one side and whilst holding it get second person (offspring) to chock the other side. Repeat this in the other direction until correct spot is reached.

Dont underestimate the weight of a 2 tonne boat on a slope. Machines on the towbar dont have a lot of weight on them for traction.

The little tractor or a tow ball on the front sounds great. I had a towball on the front of my Safari, absolutely brilliant!

If boating is your 'thing' and your current property doesn't suit your needs then I'd be inclined to sell up and find a nice flat section with easy access. This may seem a bit drastic but your boat aint going to get any lighter and your back aint going to get any better. Otherwise you will get to the point where you will give up boating because its just too difficult and then you'll spend your time taking your wife to craft shows and wine tastings and you life as you know it will be overWink

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We've just spent a year trying to find somewhere (Auckland North Shore) with a decent sized section, and I am not going through that again. We've got 1100 m^2, the problem is the tight access and turning.

I am currently doing the "chocking" thing, which is a pain, and am investigating ways of getting the access easier. For a start there is a power pole EXACTLY where you turn, knocking nearly a metre off the usable width of the drive - that might come down. Looks like the fence with the neighbours is about 80cm our side of the boundry, so can move that maybe. Its just finding the best and easiest option.
