Hi guys Looking at a boat with the grey 1999 150 Ocean Runner on the back of it. Can anyone fill me in on the reliability etc of these motors? Also on a 6.5m fibreglass what sort of fuel figures are likely to be experienced? Cheers Riga

never herd of a grey one - pretty good as long as they are well serviced. i use a rayglass 2150 (6.5m) with a 150 yammy...not cheap to run and i rarely go over 4000rpm ------------- Waikato North Harbourmaster...Got a Nav Safety question for the Waikato region?...call me 021705642 or download the app Marine Mate! |

| i have a 1999, 175(same block as the 150),great engines, keep them serviced,no worries,i have a 655 smuggler(heavy boat),at 4000rpm i do 30 mph and is not too bad on fuel at that speed. |

| yeh its the charcoal grey coloured one, not sure how many of them are around, think the idea will be to run the motor and then when the time is right put a four stroke on the back |

If it looks like this one below (right hand side) then I don't think there were any issues with them at all. As far as I know they were a good engine (the white one is a 2000 model).
Would still pay to ask around the guys who service them though.

Yeh big j thats the one, from what I've been told by guys who service them its just the VRO pump that needs to be checked out and they run pretty sweet. Cheers guys

Had one a 130 on my Cresta... the Oceanpro and Oceanrunner all the same animal.. with different coloured cowlings/motors.. Pretty sure they are same running gear but one of them had stainless shafts/bolts/internals.. the pro I think.. Went all white with the ficht motors... someone will tell me if Im wrong....  Mine was an excellent starter and quiet runner... never missed a beat with good power.. Got a '99 90Hp Grey Johnson Oceanpro. It's only the V4 but it has a heap of torque. I think it's probably a little more thirsty than say a 90hp Yamaha. The greenies wouldn't be happy with the smoke when it first starts but it's been totally reliable. The only issue was a bit of corrosion discovered when they did the gaskets a couple of years ago. It was a known issue but apparently once repaired they're sweet. Kev and Ian's have done all the work on it and I've found them to be helpful, very knowledgeable and pretty straight. Could be worth a call. |

Dagwood, those 90's should have the base gasket replaced every 2 to 3 years to avoid base corrosion. They stupidly made new base gaskets with metal in them, causing corrosion between the dissimilar metals. Great engine apart from that and the occasional VRO.

| Yep, that's what happened to me and they had to get some metal welded in there. They said some motors seem to have the issue and some don't. It goes in today to a service today so hopefully we'll have better luck this time. |
