Did outie with Paul B today, it was marginal as far as viz went (<5 metres).

We stalked a school of squid, Paul got one, I wounded one.Heap of good goaties on the sand, in hindsight shoulda bowled a few but we didn't. I was buzzed by a small group of pretty cagey kingies on the bottom, they were at least 15kg, but I'm a chump and couldn't convert.       Paul got a cray, then got hungry and ate it, as is, where is, what an animal.
Fair few fish around, but we came home empty handed. Nice to get out before exams lock me inside for a couple of weeks.

had a plate full of squid rings last night gee they taste good fresh.
To kill are you pulling the head out in the water and just keeping the hood? was thinking last night this is the way i should be doing it. rather than bring the whole things home with me.

NO!!!!! Knife them between the eyes to kill them, but keep the tentacles - the tastiest part I reckon! When you clean them just cut off the tentacles below the eyes and cook them up with the squid rings

Yep right between the eyes did the trick. Will try the tentacles next time.

do you guys take octopusses at all?

I normally did not but last sunday was picking some mussles of a rock with the gun lying on the sand a meter off the rock and a small octi came from somewhere and jumped on the spear tip. I decided that he is definitely asking for it and took it with me. Gave it couple minutes boil and sliced it sashimi style and it was delicious so now I am thinking of breaking my rule of not taking them.

Kill an eat em. If they taste good they were made to be eaten.

Apparently they are quite smart; but so are dolphins and we still eat them right??

Used to eat them on occaision when I was younger.

Grabbed an octi during a scallop dive a couple of weeks ago.  Wife gave me shyte when I brought it back to the boat (alive) so I let it go (after showing it to the kids).

Will print off a couple of octopus recipies to have on hand for the next one I grab - planning to try cooking it a couple of different ways and see what we prefer.  (I know there are some in an old thread here somewhere - if the search funtion works ... )

Just the one dolphin? Tell her to harden up, there's plenty to go round!

Mario, our token Italian club member, takes octies.  I certainly enjoyed eating them in Greece, but I cannot be bothered bashing them against a slab of concrete for an hour like they do there.  They are a very popular spearfishing target in Hawaii.

If there is something wrong with eating intelligent creatures, then what about pigs, goats, cows, dogs, wood pigeons, and camels?  We eat them, don't we?
