Hey Guys looking at making my own cast net right down to making the net mesh myself.
The sink rate of the net is one of the most important requirements for a good cast net. To achieve this the line making up the mesh has to be as thin as possible while still being strong, and you need about 1.5lbs of lead weight for every foot of radius.
So what better line to use than braid, the only problem being that its pretty expensive.
I'm looking for braid that breaks at about 12-15lb and I need at least 300m of it. Possibly more.
Does anyone know where I could get the best deal for this. Doesn't have to be top quality, just needs to break at the required breaking strain.

You're keen mate - good luck with it. I would suggest fused braid as the unfused stuff might tangle more easily, it sort of sticks to itself which could cause problems in a cast net.

I've seen one dyneema cast net advertised over in the states. I think the 11 ft version cost about $300 US.
Its just going to be a 25mm mesh so hopefully the tangles won't be so bad.
What braids are fused? Berkely fireline?
