Hi there fishos... with a brisk westerly cranking overhead it's goint to be a bit rugged off shore but in close you should be OK.... Catchelot, you are right everyone had good catches out here... there were a few boats out and also a gaggle of yakayaka fishos out here as well. ... Cover charge went out for a dive on Danger rock and speared a kingi so they are on the hunt..... we had the friendlies right in close to the beach... about 20 - 30 m off shore chasing the bait fish.... summer is on the way.. waving SBHug

A bit of a late report from last week, just picked up my camera yesterday.

The day was alsum with the sun hitting the skyline we were going to have a mint day

Fished a spot were SB had told us about, we did quite well with Snappers, Kahawai & Trevs.

We picked up a diver late in the afternoon, he had a good look around, we ended up with a copy of bugs.

And last but lest smoking the catch........alsum day out

UnhappyBloody Easterlies.... every second day we seem to have easterlies not good for the fishing conditions.... but hey it should bring the fish in... it looks as though the weekend should see the conditions ease a little..... the scollies are few a far between... that's free diving though. Surf will be mean at Elliots or down at Pare's @  Mimiwhangata... good to meet up with some of the Fishnet members... good luck people and keep the bait fresh... waving SBHug

Confused Good morning fishos... well buggar me... I get up this morning and she's a howling NNE coming in at around 25knts... looking at the horizon there's a good sized swell runniing down the coast..... so that means you've got to be keen to go out today.... I hear that some of the fellas are up the harbour netting mullet.... maybe that's the go.... I'm sure as hell not going outside in the Admirals 12' ter today... she's a bit soupy for that.... any LB boys.... you have to pick your headland so that you can cast  effectively with the wind.... I suggest down off Cape Home or the Rimarikis.... the haystack will even work today... catch you all later... waving SB

Yeah mate they called in..... Geez they were keen... NE blowing and big Northerly swell rolling down the coast..... and these fells dropped onto Henry Island and fished from 0600hrs until 1300hrs.... which is when they were getting washed off the reef.... they caught some snaps 2-3 kgs mark .. there was a yakker out and he hooked a bigger snap... crazy stuff... much better day today ... the winds died down and swung around to the SE... so there could be some good fishing to be had... despite the swell... great for the surfies.... but no good for the fellas who got the squirming guts.... eat the gingernuts boys then you wont throw up.....Waving SBClap

Clap Well fishos she's definately hotting up... the admiral has been out twic in the last three days and always come home with a feed..... she reckons there were some Kingis running off cape home .... but her light gear and impatience failed to land one... she got broken off twice... there's a bit of crappy weather coming through this weekend although it's all got plenty of west in it...... so lets hope we can still get out..... the scollies are ok up in the Rawhiti area but are all too small and skinny in the Whng harbour.... whanagruru has never recovered from the dredging that went on ouy here several years ago.... they are bloody hard to find as a result.... better off and clean the admiral's waka... ready for the next adventure.... waving SBWink

There were all short of their quota but all got a feed.... hewey's firing it down from the NW and is supposed to back around to the SW... once this front moves through the conditions will be good...... Well hi again... there have been varying catches today... the showers made the conditions uncomfortable at times... one fisho had a leaky problem with his hull after falling off a wave last weekend.... so his fish expedition today was limited.... due to plenty of bailing.... the skipper ensures me that he'll have his 12' ready for the comp out here labour weekend... one boat had 18 crays in one pot off danger rock... this is a great effort... but the fin fish were patchy..... nice night ... so much for the gale warning..... catch ya... waving SBThumbs Up

Great morning here this morning... the f/c has improved so a great day's fishing to be had.... the Limericks is where its at.... there's some foul just to the south and about 200m off the haystack... good reports there... and there were crays at Danger... reports on the kingis have been slim... so maybe they still cruising... plenty of bait fish in the bay... we had the dolphins right off the beach ...20m... herding the schools and having a feed... have a great day fishos.. waving SBThumbs Up

Checked a few catches today.... nothing startling.... the Limericks were working better than the cape... guys at the  cape were complaining about the cudahs..... one bag from the limericks had 7 snaps with four of them over 20lb..... She blew up from the NW later in the day around low tide so some of the boats called it a day earlier than expected..... everyone got fish...but nothing extra ordinary..... let's see what tomorrow brings.... waving SBHug

We've got a light southerly at 10 - 15 knots... with a calm sea high  tide is 1130hrs 3.1m 1540 low at .7m... have great day catch you next time ... wavingSBTongue

Oakura jee wizz that brings back memorys as use to practically live up there on the weekends at my mates parents batch.I can remember once taking a 8ft tinny on the roof of my Mazda 323 and getting up there and leaving the anchor at home.So we borrowed one and went out threw the anchor overboard only to realise was not tied to the boat.
Also why did everyone use the beach to launch their boats when only 10 metres away was a concrete boat ramp.

Posted By: smellybait
Date Posted: 15 Nov 2009 at 2:02pm
The ramp isn't there anymore...... it got swept away in a storm a few years ago..... the NRC didn't replace it..... I guess all those fishos with tractors want to get them wet so hence the beach launch.... that's the only way now..... Parutahi bay is the better launching site as you can launch at all tides and most conditions.... I reckon that anchor maybe the one we use for our 12' comp trophy... it's been on the bottom for years..... still a great place... the fishing has its moments... catch you up here sometime... we are at the Gas Oakura Bay Store.... waving SBTongue

Hey SB.  We are staying at the North end of Ohawini Rd, Ohawini Bay for a week over New Years.  Just wondering if its possible to launch off the beach down there (just a little tinny) and if you know what the deal is with beach access along there?  Cheers.  Kev
