The vise which was included with my kit is a POS which does not even hold hooks.... So I need a new one. Not looking to spend large amounts of money. Would mainly be used to tye bigger flys and flasher rigs. I do not have the patience to tie nymphs or little drys... I been searching the local stores and Internet and this is what I found. Hey mate,
I''ve got the crown vice and i''d definitely recommend it eh. I''ve not had it for too long, but its such an enormous improvement on the 'thing' I had. I'm sure some people will have tried them all. It holds hooks so easily and yeah...kinda bulky, but is solid, no sign of deterioration...and most importantly...CHEAP!!!

Mili, for what you are looking to do, the standard Crown would be spot on.
I have 3 of those type & they have lasted for donkeys years, being used every day.
If you decided to try tying nypmphs, the same vice would suffice although the jaws are a bit big.
The EZ Rotary would be overkill for your application, IMHO.

I tie tiny little nymphs and dry in the crown and whilst it isn't ideal it's still perfectly possible. If you think about it having something bulky out to the side doesn't hinder it, but it can just be a tiny bit clumsy at times I think. |

The regent/crowns are all indian knockoffs of the american regal vice. I have had one of the crown/regents for years and they are great. Buy the flyshop one for $55. But be aware most cheap vices won't handle anything above 2/0 hooks for flasher rigs. |

 wish someone had told me that before I tied the thousands of rigs that have come from my vices. I'm about to tie a heap of 8/0's & will be using the Crown version ( as usual)
I just measured an 8/0 with my micrometre & it went 1.85mm, a 2/0 Gammie goes 1.05mm
Both fit easily.
Paul is right tho Mili, go for the Crown.

Nope, the gummy shark is the cousin of our Rig, Lemon Shark.

| Yeah they are quite chunky eh. That's why I was hesitant to buy in the first place, but its not clumsy or anything I don't find. |
