I thought i might have a go at floundering, have never done it before but have read a few posts and sounds quite simple. I was thinking of heading to the estuary in Orewa at low tide tonite, with a torch.

Was wondering, when floundering am i likely to also see any small stingray or any other fish?
Also what are my chances of seeing flounder, like are they everywhere or will i be lucky to find some? thankyou.

Ideally you want to be fishing the incoming tide rather than low tide. I live near Orewa so will interested to hear how you get on.

orewa estuary mate throw a spear in mid air you will hit a flounder and if you miss you are bound to get a floater at least lol

Went out last night for about half an hour on low tide, saw alot of fish but not a single flounder.
The actual estuary has a pretty rocky bottom, not sand, all the way out to sea.
Was wondering if anyone knows any beaches in the area where there might be flounder, my next bet was to try the actual beach at Orewa on low tide, any thoughts on that? thanks.

I haven't tried it, but to my eye the Waiwera estuary looks more promising than Orewa
