Lemon juice (or any fresh citrus juice)
Or pinch some of the wife's vanilla essence from the larder
Better yet...stay away from the stinky bait!

toothpaste, buy a couple of tubes of the standard white colgate toothpaste or any cheap brand and keep them spare. its like a cut and polish for you hands, and then just use soap to get the excess paste and minty smell of your hands. but this has been the best remedy i have come across

baking soda mixed with a bit of water to form a paste and then rub your hands vigourously and then wash off under water.
And believe it or not another goody is toothpaste.

this is timely.... I have found that after a good session of fishing, with fish guts under your nails for a few days .. the best thing to get rid of that fishy smell is to go get a few ducks this weekend.. after gutting a few, presto! the fish smell is all gone.!!. its amazing..

Two options that I know. Both work, but one is a little more painful than the other.
Option 1 - mix sugar and dishwash liquid in the palm of one hand and then rub them together. Works well for oil and stuff as well.
Option 2 - walk in the door, kiss the wife/gf and rub your hands clean on whatever part of her anatomy or clothing you can grab. Once she punches you in the nose a couple of times the smell will be gone.

------------- The solution to any problem - work, money, love, whatever - is to go fishing - the worse the problem the longer the fishing trip should be.

There is a product sold in many fishing stores which works, it does smell a bit strange for a little while but removes the fish smell.
This is the product.
One for use with Saltwater, the other with fresh.

Truth be told guys, you dont want all the smell gone. Theres nothing better than being at work on a tuesday and catching a whiff of fish smell left over from saturday and reminiscing about your last trip instead of working.

Ajax spray n wipe. I use it for cleaning up in general and it neutralises fish odors on anything. Spray it on your hands, wait for the burning sensation to last 30 seconds or so and wash it off.

Toothpaste just replaces the smell with something else.
Anything citrus based with cold water will work.
Cold water best as it doesnt open up the pours of the skin and absorb the fishy smell even further.

wash hands under cold water with stainless steel.
Get a piece of stainless flat bar. approx 100 x 80 x 6mm. round off edges and rub over hands under cold water. you will be amazed at how good it works. Even gets ground in garlic smell from skin. I tried it out when one of my Chef mates told me about it.

STAINLESS STEEL SOAP really works as one of the other members mentioned. You can get it from specialist knife shops. I have one that looks like this:

Available from here and maybe Stevens shops:

boy you guys are soft or what
Leave the smell there and "she" (SWMBO) will send you out fishing again - or a leave pass to go fishing just to get you out of the house and stop smelling up the place.
Tagits option 2 sounds interesting but not sure I'm game to go 1 round with mine... broken bits tend to make it hard to fish!

Yep that sure does work. Wife gave me one of those stainless steel soaps and I keep it in the car as its perfect to cleaning up after those messy landbased missions and can be done with cold salt water.

These two work...
• Laundry powder rubbed on hands and rinsed under cold water
• Handful of sand, rub over hands and rinsed in sea

There is an orange and pumice hand cleaner avaliable at mitre ten mega's in a big pump pack - orange does the citrus cleaning - pumice works as an abrasive. Works really well and is quite cheap.
It's in a big orange plastic container - but I can't remember the brand

interesting thread guys. I have been working with a NZ company that is about to bring a natural handcleaner to the fishing market. It cleans and deodorises and can be used in saltwater or freshwater - using hot or cold water. Its called Zeosoft - uses a local active mineral called Zeolite. All the trials with fishermen have come back saying it works well. Website being built so can't point you there yet. If anyone is interested in being sent a free sample just email me on mailto:[email protected] - [email protected] and will pass onto to the guys to send you some product.
