hi there

after lots of help from members on here about what product to use to clean up my 440 fyran everyone suggested using "ali bright" so i went and purchased some of this and am getting ready to go over my hull with it.just thought i would clarify a couple of things before i go ahead with it.according to the label its an acid based cleaner that u spray on and then hose off.whats the ratio to water that u would typically use?

and does this ali bright affect sealant on the bottom edge of the underside of my boat? for example will il start eating away at it so i have to re-seal boat afterwards?

and similar to last question does it eat away at decals and paint etc?

just wanna make sure of this before i do it as last 6 months have been spent doing a huge re-haul on this boat(new outboard new canopy, new ff,new bloody everything)

and would hate to muck up the fyran decal.

any help would be much appreciated

all you got to be carefull of is the mix best to start weak and strengthin if needed,,i use a 750 mil spray and wipe bottle ,put about 40mils in fill with water and spray on not in the sun and dont let dry ,,keep the mixture exactly the same so even colour appears if still stained increase a little remember it wont shine it goes dull greyish but you can buff using alloy polish and it comes up like chrome but the salt water will keep staining resulting in lots of polishing,,i just done the inside of my stabi and after i acid washed it i scothed  pad it then done another wash and sprayed automotive clear over it ,,,ali bright wont eat paint or anything else it only works on bare alloy so you wont go wrong   dont breathe it in and use latix cloves ,,you cant get it wrong ,,spray bottom up and hose the same way  it will have immediate effect and foams white ,,take a before and after pic post it here so i can see how it came out

the sea puts bronze color stain on it in spots ,i use a palm sander and fit a cloth to it works much better than hand buff and quicker ,i reckon you need a few coats of polish to get like a film build up after your first trip you will know what i mean im actually going to buff mine so shiney as then clear it straight over the top but not sure if the clear will stick so will only do the transom step through cover ,,ive done my stabi 609ht and my mates 589ht and they look much better than factory if your fussy like me buff it every time after use if it dont bother you ,,you doing the hull arent you thats alot of work as to just the rear transom like me

done the big acid wash and hell buff to mirror like standard but doesnt last even with waxing .rain, seawater  whatever starts off blotching then complete dulls off.best bet is to acid wash ,rinse thoroly with water, dry and spray with nyalic.polishing then spraying a clear will probably lead to clear flaking off as no etch used.the nyalic seems to have a built in etch.etch molecules are sort of  hook like and design to really bite into bare metal.

ur right it does lose the shine on my pontoons which were nyalic i scotched pad them then sprayed 2k metallic silver and what a difference once painted its so easy to keep like new the nyalic is a very good etch primer i also sprayed automotive clear over the silver to give the shine,,,i will do my transom at some stage the same,,this is what it now looks like

thanks for your help guys appreciate that.i think i might do the acid wash then spray with nyalic just to stop the marks on hull as im a bit too lazy and busy to buff it everytime i go out.sure if i hada stabi 759 i probably would buff it everytime haha but iv just gota lil 440 fyran that im tryin to make mint.
have you guys got ne ideas on the price of this nyalic stuff?
io rang and spoke to the guy and he sent me out a dvd on how it works etc but doesnt have any pricing details

i bought some nyalic etc cost me $270 odd smackers for a product that was crap my advice dont go there petrol eats it big time it scratches and when touched up dont look the same,i spent countless hours only to be disappointed with the finish

just buy some automotive clear coat its far better as nothing eats it and its cheaper you wouldnt need much ,,,and the result is exactly the same finish

its easy to repair tobe the beauty of paint with clear as if you did scratch it sand it out and respray then flick some clear on it ,when i got mine i scratched it on a jetty the scratch then becomes blackish as the salt water hits the bare alloy they say simply reapply some nyalic will this pigs bollox because A the colour doesnt match and B you can see the repair,,believe me ive had some experience with that stuff

locall boat yard here sells osprey boats which are made in nelson and he was telling me that they no longer come nyalic just bare alloy and when one sells they acid wash it ,i think mclay are stopping using dupont as that to is a major to repair ,,paint bro cant go wrong and it keeps the new look ,when mine went in for service they actually didnt know if it was dupont or nyalic and when i said i sprayed it they were shocked couldnt believe the result,,its always going to be a ongoing problem alloy and salt water there are some gimmicks out there to be the saviour ,nyalic is an excellent etch primer ,nyalic is applied in my veiw for showroom sales ,why put nyalic on paint see the dvd when for years painters in the auto shop have been usuing automotive clear which is a thicker product which is more durable,,its a shame Aiden you live up there as you cant view my boat ,but what i will do is take a close up pic of a pontoon and let you see the result with paint

you can buy the clear from a paint shop that sells automotive paints ,,,you can only spray it on
i used 2k paint which is a paint and you add hardner and thinners ,,,,you got any contacts in the panel/paint bussiness if so they would know exactly ,,,you sound a little unsure aidan are you going to acid wash and paint or acid wash and clear cause if you are doing the latter you would have to lightly scotch pad the surface so clear will stick

aidan mate ill just keep feeding you the info is what this place is for ,check out particularly surtees and mcaly now those two brands are acid washed and nyalic ,clearcoat being the same ,note the colour un buffed they dont put a shine on there boats ,i went paraell with the alloy length wise by hand and water and got a good effect ,the tosser at nyalic said use 80 grit like christ it will scratch **** out of it some salesman anyway hand rubbed with scotch pad seemend fine if use a buff with scothpad you will get swirls which i didnt like after scotchpad you can always use 1100/12000/1500 paper go over it and it will remove the pad marks the scotch pad will remove the dull acid wash colour bringing to a shine ,once you have even colour after pad clean and spray on the clear and it will stay like that ,dont buy the clear already in spray cans get the stuff in a tin its thicker and a better product ,when dry put your hand over it and you will feel the protective coat its great and one even coat is enough although i did a couple ,,,ill stand by mate
