Have been out past couple of days fishing for pleasure amongst the large schools of snappers. Where we have been going, the morning has been slow and the arvo has been fishing intensly for a few hours at a time. We have been amongst the bait Schools out in the middle Gulf. The weather has been brilliant with smooth seas and heaps of sunshine.

Nice report mahiman - we found it a bit slow around LB yesterday in the 45-55m range. Would really only take the small squidgies.

Nice fish Paul, just as a matter of interest did you have any success yesterday (Tuesday)? because I was out with Olfart and we found it really tough on the softies. I would be interested to see if you managed to score and we were just in the wrong placeAngry

TL it was tough until about 3PM then the whole area was fishing very well we left them biting around 6pm. I was expecting to see Olfart there.  The Red Shad fished on 4 Oz Cyclops was working the best. Pink was  slow and blue and green were average...2 Oz Cyclops and also 3/4oz jighead was slow... The 4oz and Red Shad Paddle tail is now my favourite set up for out in the middle.

We shot out in that direction today, I was fishing softs, Ledeine was fishing baits, we thought we were onto  a good thing when I landed one about 5 lbs and Ledeine got one that would of gone 10 lbs (east of Kawau) then spent the rest of the day struggling to get two more fish, once that easterly breeze kicked in it was all over.No sign of birds, dolphins or whales, sure as hell beat going to work though..Confused

Hi Paul

We nearly got to go out into the middle ground.  However, after some discussion on Monday night it was decided that as Skoti had never fished the Firth it was a good opportunity to show him some new areas.  As it turned out, we probably did as well as many others, even though it was hard going for much of the time and the softies were not working at all.

Next time, perhaps - weather permitting!

Thanks Paul, I think we know where to goWink, so now Olfart is comfortable about taking his canoe further out we will have to poke our nose out that way.
