Yep will be keen not sure how where or if possible but was thinking late summer off top of east cape trolling lures. Not keen going more than 5kms off shore though and conditions would have to be good.

Not sure my Revo STX would like a yellow fin but there is only one way to find out.

Keep in touch perhaps we can get a few other crazie yakkos up there for the trip.

Hey Ben. You aint texting now mate. I thought they taught you to spell at Trident. Wink You know I'll take you out and drop you off miles out to sea. I'd love to see you being towed around the ocean by an angry fin.

Ok now I def keen for one nice weekend. Just so you can say that you gave it a go. Yellowfin from a yak no worries.

Right then we need a gear list next:

Trace
Line weight
What to do when you hook one.
What grounds do you want to fish?

sounds to me like you's should have a boat on 'stand by' incase it all turns to cr@p

You might find a marlin a bit easier than a blue fin - I'd be keen to have a go on a yellow fin if I was up your end of the country

We've got 400lb trace for marlin - but you wouldn't need that for Yellow fin - you wouldn't be able to put much pressure on them when they are straight under the yak

Ye ha bring on the blue water

I'd be keen to be the standby boat and perhaps take some footage of the action.

choice now were geting some where. would be orsum to have you as stand by boat biggear will do my best to give you sum good footage tho it may be just the bottom of my yak. As for gear I plan to use 24kg main hopefully on my alvey if that turns to crap then i will go alittle more high tec but i recon the alvey can handle it and iv not heard of a yellow or blue fin on an alvey before so that settles that. I hope to hook them while chunking and life baiting tho may try trolling if all else fails. as to where? I think little tackel I mean biggear is the one to pick that as hes done abit up that ways. the house i hope to get for us is about 5 mins from lottin point. And what to do when we hook up? .... **** myself i think!!! man i cant wait!

Well if you are looking for a tuna, surely the earlier summer will be better. Late december early january around whk/east cape. Late summer down lottin is a great time for big blue marlin and stripies but if its anything like last year, the tuna pissed off early.

Mmmmm I am as keen as to have a go at this but have no real big fish experiance.

Reels would be critical for this. What would be minimum ?

Posted By: biggear
Date Posted: 19 Nov 2008 at 9:11am
Minimum really is 24kg on a 50w.

ya mean ride ! ive never ad really big fish on yak ether. thats why i want to get this happerning. i hope to get slamed, busted, spooled , capsized and have an orsum time! may even beat 1> still keen to try cunking and life baiting, tho i may try a lure too. Ive not had reason to be scared of old sharp tooth yet. if they are to big for me to  handle or retrive my hook i cut them lose, dam good fighters some of them. if we must padle out and back for it to count as a yak catch then i shall have to fish inside the 2 mile line as my back has been surgiclly wrecked and much more than 4mile round trip would cripple me. So is it feb ?

I could lend any of you mad abstards some 37kg gear if you are serious about a stickface towing you around.

Nothing like having a bow wave form at the front of your yak while the line is still peeling out - then it was by by to my lure when the 80lb trace pulled apart - never even got a chance to see what it wasCry
