There are some nice motel units called White Island Rondez-Vouz that a very comfortable. I have stayed there before a trip. There also back packers about 5 Mins from the jetty too Whakatane is really small. Perhaps go to http://www.whitepages.co.nz - www.whitepages.co.nz and put in the town etc and see what comes up.

Hey murf who would be silly enough to do that & what is their ph number again we just gonna find a simple bed or sleep in or unda da truck
Its getting close only a couple of weeks, pant! pant!. Hope it all falls into place for our trip. If I'm gonna catch something bigger than a Rangi Channel Kingi I want it to break my arms Mark is the boat gonna be in Whakatane or are you driving it down from Tauranga, cause we might stay with tauranga whanau & then follow you down in the mourn
