I would hit Lottin Point if you are down that way. We went earlier this year and got a couple of kings and a few snaps. Not sure what its like this time of year though. Awesome spot even if you dont catch a thing. Plus if you stay at the lodge Bruno is a great host!!

Hard to look past a trip to E cape but maybe it's a bit early to be really firing down there yet.
Where's Inov8a when you need him?! I imagine Andrew's got an idea of which is likely to be fishing best at the moment.
Kingy mission this one I presume??

Yea I will hit Andrew up and see what could be going, East Cape will be a next year trip now- sounds as if its the best time to do it.

Far North I feel is the answer - plenty of places have been listed and we will envisage to do a few of them, thanks for all the help so far.

Why not try Great Barrier??? ... easy boat ride over, rent a car... and camp out where ever you feel the urge.

I think that would be right up there with Army Bay! :)

See you there on Sat Bas ;)

By the way mate - clear out your PMs. Can't PM you!

Drunken far north expedition instead George, fishing new ledges way more important!
Great Barrier would be awesome but we need more than a few days there, one or two weeks would be the go :)

Shakespeare has more potential if your looking for the skimpy clad Bas! Clap

Likewise with the PM's, Bas can't message you - you've sent to many today apparently?

Got your PM mate, Henderson's is Henderson bay and you need to go right or if you have an inflatable go out to the reef, it to is off to the right you cant miss it, bit of a bugger if you miss the turn off.

Bucks is spirits bay, easy access and hammered but the fish are there if your patient, personally i would do the island best accessed at low tide you can fish both side and have taken many a goody out of there, some great night fishing to be had there as well and off the beach.

Karikari, well Matai Bay and walk but dont leave anything in the car, scrotes live here.

Hihi would be another spot i would go best in an easterly and again some fine fish there just gotta be patient.

hope that helps a bit, remember big baits and bigger bust offs the north has it all.

you just gotta put in the hard yards mate.

So we have now lost a person and a 4WD :( our mate his dislocated his knee cap, anyone that is able to make 17-20th October, leaving from Auckland, we would need you to share the costs, if you have a 4WD even better.
Far North location - As Ba has said big baits and even bigger bustoffs!

Yeah he's ok, just cant do the walking we will be doing over the few days, sounds like a pretty nasty injury the way he described it.

Knee cap dislocated and moved to the side of his leg and then he popped it back in place, pity that didnt put it back to normal - Now he's gotta go see an orthopedic!

That's going to hurt big time in the future when he get cold.

Take his 4WD, he won't need it.

How much was he trying to lift when he popped the knee?

-------------
Yes it was me, I screwed it up for everyone.

Hihi BA??? Confused

I think there are much better spots then that in the Far North! Wink

I'd give this point a go at Rangiputa.  See the nice little drop off on the point into deep blue water! Big%20smile

Very true mate it is an option in an easterly and the fishing if you know where to go can be awesome, yes nice spot that you have there for sure.

Could take his 4WD if he lets us. Thats a perfect option!

He wasnt lifting anything, some guy grabbed him in a bar and I guess his knee just went the wrong way, its all here say so dont know the full story.

I've had some good freight trains off the rocks under Rangikapiti Pa at Mangonui.
Access either down from 4WD track that leads off the carpark at the Pa itself, or follow the track off the end of Rangikapiti Rd.

HLD. Is your car safe in that carpark?  Have always wondered if it was any good for a fish.

Never had any problems at either the pa carpark or the end of Rangikapiti Rd. Although I have seen the tell-tale glass sprinkles from time to time.
My preferred choice is the road end rather than the Pa carpark (It's a shorter walk) Follow the track for a hundred metres then veer off to the right into a bay and follow your nose.

There's a big squarish ledge down there with a gut either side where my mate and I spent a day in fishing heaven.

The KYs had bailed up the mother of all baitballs in these guts and were going berserk, and at the outer edge, the Kings were having a field day.

We got smashed so many times and lost count of how many Kings we had. As fast as one of us was releasing, the other was hooking up. They were still at it when we gave up from exhaustion.
My mate got fish of the day when he lost one at the waters edge when a monster busted off.  It must have been stunned (or just not bothered by it all) as it was just slowly swimming away when my mate dropped the rod and lept in on top of it.  Came out with this thing in a deathgrip bear hug and a grin from ear to ear. 48lb. "with my bare hands, bro!"Big%20smile

Definitely worth a sniff if you're passing.

That is a spot for the inflatable, then you can stay out there for a little while if the swell permits (more bait and burley you can bring.

Sorry to hear about your mate. Hopefully they won't have to shorten his cartilage in order to keep his knee in place. If so then it's going to become a regular occurrence over time his knee popping out of place and popping it back in.
