Have spent the last couple of evenings completely stripping down my 6500B. Have used parts cleaner on everything and taken it right back. The inside workings were a real jigsaw puzzle, even with the schematics to work to. Replacing the 3 ball bearings as they are poked. The bearing on the main shaft was leaking rust and one of the bearings on the handle was good as rooted.
All in all, still in excellent condition for a reel that must be on 5 years old now.

Just bought 2 sets of replacement bearings. In case anyone else wishes to replace the bearings in their 6500B, you need one 9 x 20 x 6mm bearing for the spool shaft and two 9 x 17 x 14mm bearings for the handle shaft ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? She's back together. Dare I say she's probably running better than she was new. Was a lot easier reassembling the reel than taking it apart. Relubing the parts would have been the most time consuming part of the exercise. ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

Certainly is working a treat after its op. Casting distance has increased due to oiling rather than greasing the bearings... of course bearings that actually roll helps the cause. 3500B is next to have surgery ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

3500B is now fully broken down too. It's a slightly different beast with a few minor differences to the 6500B. Need another set of bearings for this reel too. These ARB bearings supposedly having awesome corrosion resistance is a load of crap! Just about to crack open the TLD25. ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. tld25 should be fun.. bet there is a heap of stuff you can do to that to make it better. well done for giving it all a go, definatly a good skill to know- and great to have the confidence in your gear knowing you have cleaned it all up and its going to be working superbly! ------------- here fishy, fishy fishy..... |

Have had the TLD25 apart before. Can't remember if it was this or my TLD25 that I had trouble getting that cooling shield off. That's the plate with the reverse thread.
Best thing was that after taking the 6500B apart, the 3500B only took about 30 mins for full strip down. ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

Rebuilt the reel last night and like the 6500B the 3500B is running smoother than it did brand new. Bought a Shimano Backbone 7' 4-8kg rod yesterday as I had sold the rod I originally had. Nice work, I should give this a go at some stage, where did you get the schematics from, did you still have them from new? Would the ones of the shimano site still be the same or is it likely the design has changed a little over the years? I think my baitrunner must be close to 10years now and makes a few annoying noises, still got a smooth drag thou ------------- put a smile on your dial or you won't see me for a while |

Schematics were available on the Shimano website, but if what you're looking for isn't then a Google search will uncover them. Is yours a 6500A or a 6500B, Riga? ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

Not to sure Finatic, its back home in tga and I'm down here in dunnas, its pretty old though and I'm sure most of the paint has rubbed off the spool so could be hard to make that out, is the 6500A the earlier version? If it is I would imagine it is that one

My 6500B's baitrunner drag system was clean, the 3500B was fully encrusted with salt, so obviously isn't as well sealed in that area as it's bigger cuzzy ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

TLD25 was simple to pull apart and work on. It was getting it back together that caused the dramas. Nothing major really but a pain undoing all 7 screws that hold the side plate in place. I had assembled it and found that the anti-reverse wasn't working . Took it apart again to check. You have to make sure the anti-reverse dog is in position correctly.
Now I just need to take the old line off and take her down to Just Fishin on the Shore to get her spooled with some new 24kg. Reel no.3 ready to go... hmmm, which reel next? ------------- What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck. |

Decided to have a look inside my 6500b I then almost broke my daiwa emcast, and I also had a look at my Shimano Biomaster but could not put the bail spring back in... I think it is best for me not to look inside my reels |
, I basically only managed to undo 4 screws before being blocked by the baitrunner lever.... So I gave up. Then figured out I have broken the Baitrunner drag attachment

I just levered my baitrunner lever off with a screwdriver. Make sure you've taken the small screw out of the right hand side first though

I reckon you'd need to hit that switch the wrong way with a hammer for it to snap. I think I had to spray a bit of Inox on it and leave it for a minute or two.
